“If journalism is good, it is controversial, by

its nature.”

     ~Julian Assange

Journalists form the backbone of a community. It is a task
that requires immense hard work and integrity and is
extremely difficult. Although this piece of information should
be popular among the local people, it is not the case because
of lack of coverage.  Often even the meaning of profession of
journalism is mistaken and confined into the concept of news
anchoring. People often forget the behind the scene work.
  According to the bill of journalists rights 2014;
“Journalism” means to publish news and information
packages, pictures,  recordings, writings, modification,
reporting, analysis or news or information regarding local,
national, international events and of matters of public
interest.

Similarly, the term “Journalist” mean such person (male
and female) who within constitutional and legal parameters
prepares regularly news items, information, writings,
modifications, reports, analysis regarding local, national,
internal events and other matters of public interests within
the scopes of legal and constitutional limits, media workers
will be included in the same.
The security of communities and individuals is something
that all the constitutions around the world uphold and is a
right that cannot be contradicted upon. It forms the
foundation of all human rights. UN states that human rights
include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and
torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work
and education. These rights comprise the security of a
person. It is sad that this is not practically imposed in all
cases, especially for journalists in Pakistan. Most of the
journalists struggle financially, socially and psychologically,
and some come across circumstances where even there lives
are put at stake.
It is perhaps the governments shortcoming that these
journalists have endure such injustices, an example of which
can be seen that the bill of journalists rights that was
originally proposed in 2014 still has not been passed.
