PERSONAL SWOT ANALYSIS 2

SWOT analysis is an approach through which a person can analyze his/her internal

capabilities; weaknesses and strengths, and external traits; threats and opportunities to

become better (Hill, & Westbrook. 1997). Strengths are personal internal positive aspects

under his/her control that can be capitalized in planning. They may include work experience,

strong technological knowledge, and education among others. Weaknesses, on the other

hand, are a person’s internal negative aspects under his/her control and which he/she can plan

to improve. They may include; lack of experience, lack of goals, weak skills and weak job-

seeking methods (Hansen & Hansen., 2015).

Opportunities are the positive external aspects that a person cannon control but which

he/she can plan to take advantage. They may include; technological advancement,

globalization, and strong networks. The last component of the SWOT analysis is the threats

which are the negative external conditions that a person has no control of but can lessen their

effects. They may include; technological changes, obsolescence, and downsizing (Hansen &

Hansen., 2015). From the analysis the following strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and

threats were determined by a person;

Turning Weaknesses to Strength

From the analysis above it is possible are relatively easy to transform some of my

weaknesses into strengths by turning the way they affect me. The weaknesses I have of

fearing that my ideas might be rejected greatly impact my career negatively but using this

fear as the sources of creativity and innovativeness increases my strength in the same career

and beyond. Another weakness that I have transformed into strength is the inability to cope

up with stressful work events which I have successfully transformed into a passion. Having

known the kind of tasks that give me more stress, I had to engage in a career that I have a

passion for to avoid the possibility of having stress and, therefore, causing negative effects to

my job. Finally, lack of adequate experience is a weakness that I have learned a method to

overcome; being open minded. Since I can’t be right all the time and the fact that I know that

I have a lesser experience makes me embrace the trait of being open minded to gain

experience from other people.

From that view, it is possible to take advantage of my strengths; open-mindedness,

innovativeness, and creativeness, and combine them with the most important resource I

possess; education to maintain and improve my strengths. Additionally, I would wish to

eliminate or rather reduce some of my weaknesses such as overcommitment, poor stress

management, and being a perfectionist which have a detrimental effect on my career.

Turning Threats into Opportunities

Since threats and opportunities are external factors, it is difficult to control them but

turning some of the threats into opportunities is part of a career building individual. One of

the threats that I could change into an opportunity is the competition in the workplace. The

possibility of having to compete and come out a loser has motivated me to attend seminars

and workshops so that I can learn a better way of production and management. Another threat

is that concerning the changing of technology that can affect my career either currently or in

the future. Due to that possibility, I have been actively engaged in technology with any new

advancement being a part of my desire to learn, understand it and acquire a certificate for the

same if possible.

Some of the threats I have are also a common aspect of people in the same field as me

with the same qualifications and experience levels. Despite, that, education is still my main

opportunity that I intend to upgrade every time an advancement opportunity presents itself.

The reason for that is to ensure that I acquire more knowledge and experience in my line of

work according to the changes in the economic and labour market.
