INTRODUCTION
Sanitation problems continue to pervade our country, particularly in schools. Hands are
considered to be the main way of communicable diseases , because of the frequent contact with
hands and any surfaces of some areas. Mostly to us, students when using comfort rooms, eating and
living areas. The opportunity for coming in contact with a pathogen is more likely to happen. Flu,
colds, coughs and infections are the most common diseases that we can easily get which can
actually affect our health. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), hand
washing is the single most important and effective method of preventing disease transmission.
Hand washing is an important technique in removing or reducing the number of microorganisms
from the hands. This in turn will reduce the potential transmission of these microorganisms
directly to others or to surfaces where they can be picked up by others. Washing of ones hands will
also decreases the risk of transmission of infectious agents to self. Hand washing is especially
important among healthcare workers. “Contaminated hands of health care workers are a primary
source of infection transmission in health care setting” (Perry and Potter, 2009, p.655). Of equal
importance is also hand washing among young children. In this instance it can help prevent
common illnesses such as the flu and help them stay healthier. Some of the most common diseases
that can be spread through hand to hand contact are infectious diarrhea, the flu, the common cold
and also some intestinal disorders. This can affect people who are more vulnerable to infectious
diseases such as those with reduced defenses including the elderly or even very young children.
Other consequences of not washing the hands or improper washing of hands includes food related
illnesses for example E.coli infection or salmonella. These conditions can also lead to intestinal
problems which can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
In school context, Pototan National Comprehensive High School is committed to provide its
students and faculty with best learning and working environment as possible. This school aims to
improve itself by providing a safe place for students , teachers , staff as well as the visitors. This
institution provides facilities to cater the needs of these people. Based on our interview 10 out of 10
suffer illnesses usually intestinal problems and tend to be absent in school. As students of PNCHS
the proponents are concerned about the health of the fellow students and teachers because a
healthy man is near to success. Through “PROJECT HABON” which stands for Hand Washing
Activity to Beat Off Norovirus. ,This will help reduce the spread of diseases and acquire germ-free
hands through hand washing as well as lessen the absentees due to illnesses.
In support of Department of Education’s program WINS or the Wash In Schools action plan
stipulated in DepEd Order No. 10, s.2016, which advocates correct hygiene and sanitation practices
among school children and promotes an environment conceive to learning to keep learners safe
and healthy and in partnership with Project KAMOT the Project HABON will implement a hand
washing activity in schools specifically in Pototan National Comprehensive High School at Step I
and neighbourhood of the campus in Step II.
Moreover, this program will not only help fight against germs but also help the unemployed
campus neighbourhoods to make soaps and sell it to others in the long run. This project will be
very beneficial inside and outside the campus. It will help not to spread disease at the same time
make a living.

This project proposal aims the following objectives.

 To protect the students and teachers against harmful germs that may result to diseases.
 To establish a hand washing activity.
 To help DepEd promote WINS action plan.
 To help unemployed campus neighborhoods.
 To lessen the absences due to illnesses.

This project proposal is very beneficial to students, teachers, staff and other people. Fight
against germs and create a germ free school and healthy workplace for teachers through practicing
hand hygiene. Proper hand washing can prevent diarrhea and uncomfortable intestinal diseases,
avoid common eye infections, obstruction of respiratory tract infections , reduction of the bacteria
content in your hands and prevent other diseases. Washing hands lowers the risk of having
diarrhea and developing intestinal infections, an important benefit particularly for children.
Diarrheal disease is one of the leading causes of death in children under 5 throughout the world.
Contact with fecal matter causes such illnesses and can be prevented by washing hands with soap.
It may also prevent complications connected to intestinal worms. The spread of bacterial eye
infections, such as trachoma, can be reduced through regular hand washing. It can also lower the
likelihood of contracting conjunctivitis, or pink eye. This irritating eye condition causes eye pain,
itching, light sensitivity and discharge. It is spread a number of ways, with the most common being
through viruses. Always wash your hands before putting in contacts, as being a contacts wearer
increases your risk of having pink eye. You can lower your chances of developing an acute
respiratory infection by making hand washing a priority. The pathogens that cause respiratory
complications are commonly found on surfaces and hands. Some of the pathogens associated with
diarrhea also cause respiratory problems. Hand washing significantly reduces your chances of
getting sick.
In addition, if the students are healthy the number of absentees will decrease. The main
reason why students tend to be absent in class is because of health problems and some of these
health problems are typically transferrable. These diseases may be because of frequent contact.
This may lessen through the help our project.
Moreover, volunteer students and campus neighbors will learn how to make soaps and they
can earn money out of it. With their active participation this project will turn to reality. These soaps
are officially made by our school funded by the Project Kamut from their collection of plastic
garbages. With their help this project will come up with soaps that will be utilized in hand washing
activities.
