This is an age of computers. The computer is a powerful medium of education.


Computer programming would provide meaningful vocational training with immediate
opportunities.

To build the knowledge and concept of computers we have computer Science taught
from classes I to X for which a nominal fee will be charged.

LIBRARY & KNOWLEDGE CENTRE

The School library has a collection of good books, magazines and newspapers to suit the
taste and interest of every student. Regular additions are made to keep up with recent
publications. Students are encouraged to use the library frequently and open self system
is followed. Students and staff can always be found there happily browsing over books
and magazines. Students are encouraged to borrow books to read in their spare time
besides allotted library period in the school time table. E-library with collection of C.D
and cassettes and supervised internet is also available. Teachers are constantly attending
knowledge centre for multimedia contents to be brought to smart class.

The Science Laboratories are thoughtfully designed to satisfy the inquisitiveness and the
quest for innovation and research. The School has separate labs for Physics, Chemistry,
Mathematics and Biology fully equipped with the latest devices and experimental kits to

Scholarships and Special Awards are given to meritorious students without any
discrimination of caste, colour or creed based on need-cum-merit. Certificate of merit is
awarded to school toppers and class topers. Old staff and faculty are honoured from time
to time for their contribution to the school.

Workshops & seminars

Workshops and seminars are conducted from time to time at the school to develop special
traits in personality and keep the students abreast with latest techniques in teaching and
learning. Special educational and inspirational movies are screened on weekly basis for
entertainment and education of staff and students.
Scout & Guide and NCC

Facility of Scouts & Guides and NCC is available at school. Out door camps are regulaly
organized to foster a community service feelings, dedication, self-esteem and discipline

Curriculum

Pre-Primary Section: Lkg, Ukg & Grade- I


Cognitive skills are germinated by play way method, outdoor activities and physical
fitness is given importance. Nutritious supplement and breakfast is provided to each child
in the school time.

Primary section: grade ii to v

Basic knowledge of language-English and Hindi- along with basic Mathematics and
General Science, Arts, Music, Dance, Vedic Culture, Physical Education are taught. The
child develops creativity, logical thinking, analytical abilities and physical fitness along
with rich Indian values with respect and care.

Hostel at GPS has all modern infrastructure and centrally air-conditioned, hygienic and
sanitized living conditions, happy and creative environment, etiquettes, manners &
grooming, balanced and nutrient diet necessary to growing children. It dedicates itself to
building character through a very active day schedule and covers diverse activity to
enhance spiritual, moral, social, physical, emotional, psychological and positive attitude
in the child.

Co-Curricular Activities

School Endeavors to develop all round personality of its students. It offers opportunity
for participation in a wide range of co-curricular activities, hobbies and interests of
various groups. Students are required to participate in some of the activities of their
choice compulsorily for overall development of their mental attitude. All children are
divided in four houses such as Pratap, Subhash, Shivaji and Tilak on the basis of their
achievement in academics, who participate in inter-house & inter-school level activities.

Prefectorial Council: To develop the quality of leadership school nominates the


prefectorial Council of the school comprising of School Captain & Vice-Captain (Boy
and Girl). The senior most students of the school get an opportunity to be the members of
this council.

Games and Sports Activities

Sports and Games form the integral part of the school curriculum. Children are required
to participate in one or more sport and activity of their choice compulsorily. LIRS
believes that sports are very important from a holistic education perspective and provide
lifelong pleasure, fulfillment, relaxation, physical fitness, self-esteem and fosters a team
spirit. Inter-house competitions include athletics, volleyball, football, handball, cricket,
basket-ball and lawn tennis. The school also participates in CBSE inter school sports
competitions. In the indoor sport activities chess, carrom and table tennis competitions
are held.

Adventure Sport

School Organizes camps and activities within the campus and outside for adventure
sports which includes Para-gliding, roller skating, rappelling, wall - climbing, karate,
obstacle course and trekking are under guidance of experts.

Excursions & Education Tours

School regularly conducts excursion and education tours for its students. Short & long
outings not only give them knowledge of the world around them but also develop skills
of being independent and learn to co-exist in the society and deal with various ups and
downs of life.

Developing Talents

The Departments of art and craft, clay modeling and earthen pot painting, music and
other literary competitions are coordinated by the activity in charge with support of the
teachers forming the House committees. The students are divided into four Houses and
are trained to excel in these activities by their respective House Committees. The
activities held during the academic year include essay writing, quiz, poster painting on
various themes, singing, dancing, elocution and debates. Also, children participate in
these activities in inter-school competitions.

Music and Performing arts

We encourage students to participate in learning Music, Performing arts, Theatre, Drama,


Dances Indian and Western, Classical and popular to enhance their talents and experience
joy in day to day life under the guidance of Professionals.

Health Check Ups & Career Counseling

Proper Medical care is available to students at all time on 24x7 basis. Regular health
check ups are conducted by qualified doctors and health records are kept meticulously.

LIRS has started a regular programme on career counselling which includes individual
counseling and Personality Development programme for the students. This programme
builds self-esteem, self-confidence, communication skills, team synergy and leadership
skills. The career counseling is done by the experts from time to time, who conducts
aptitude tests and personal interviews to help student choose their subject from amongst
various options viz. Science, Arts and Commerce and later on to choose a career.

Traditions Indian Culture & Festivals

At LIRS we celebrate festivals of all religion, States and regions with equal fervour and
enthusiasm to inculcate a sense of national integration and pride in rich Indian Culture &
heritage, in the young minds of uninitiated, in addition to Sports Day & Annual Day
celebrations.

Convocation ceremony for juniors and Graduation Ceremony for Senior Secondry
students is performed at the conclusion of final academic year at the respective
curriculam at school.

Traditional practices of Indian culture e.g. Paad Puja to pay respect to elders & parents,
Vidhyadaan to mark learning of first syllable by Nursery students and invocation of
Godess Saraswati with lighting of ceremonial lamp is generally performed in presence of
spiritual leaders/ gurus to seek blessings of the Almighty at the begining of all ceremony.

Admissions

Admission to Loyola International Residential School is restricted by certain policies of


the management and by the conditions of age, ability and conduct of the candidate. Hence
applicants for admission may be given an oral written test at the time of admission. The
decision of the school authorities regarding the entrance test shall be final.
Admission are made in Pre- K.G., L.K.G.,U.K.G., classes and for standards I to X. for
direct admission children should satisfy the age rule i.e., 2+ for nursery, 3+ for L.K.G.,
4+ U.K.G., 5+ for I Std., and so on. Students coming form unrecognized institution will
not be admitted. Two passports size photos, Xerox copy of the Birth certificate and
community certificate, original copy of transfer certificate should be produced at the time
of admission.

Producer for L.K.G., includes a personal meeting with the child and parents to verify the
certificate and to brief the rules and regulations of the school. An entrance test will be
conducted in Tamil, English and Maths for the students seeking admission for U.K,G., to
IX standard and those who are selected on merit alone will be allowed to join the
institution.

Application for admission should be made on the prescribed form by parents or


guardian who will be responsible tot eh head of the school for the pupil’s conduct,
punctuality, regular attendance, progress in school and payments of fees.

The principal reserves the right of refusing admission to a pupil without ascribing any
reason in it. He also reserves the right of refusing continued studies of any pupil whose
conduct is not satisfactory.

Uniform should not bear any self designs on them. It should be well washed and
ironed. Boys are not permitted to wear belts other than school belt. Boys from class VI
are expected to wear Salwar kameez. Girls are expected to have double d plaits and
white ribbon with their uniforms on all days. Whenever a student is present at school for
regular /special/ revision class/ for any programme practice he / she must be in school
uniform.

Nature of uniform default

Untidy uniform, unkempt hair, unpolished shoes, torn socks untrimmed nails and not
wearing tie, school belt, I.D card, ribbon or head band

School academic session

School Academic session is from June to May.

Academic year comprise of three terms


First term : June to September
Second term : October to December
Third term : January to May

Michaelmas holidays at the termination of 1st term consist of 10 or 11 days and will be
tentatively from 22nd September. Christmas holidays at the termination of 22nd term will
consist of 12 or 13 days and will be tentatively from 22nd December. Summer holidays a
the termination of 3rd term coinciding with the conclusion of Annual Examination
consist of 45 to 50 days and will be tentatively from 15th April.

School timing

The working day is divided into two sessions, morning session 8.45 am to 12.30 pm
noon. Afternoon session from 1.00 pm to 3.30 pm.
Students must be inside the school premises by 8.30 am. If late beyond 8.30 am they
should bring a letter of explanation from the parent. Late comer between 8.30 am and
8.45 am should surrender their hand book to the volunteer at the gate.

Attendance

As regular attendance is an important element for successful school work, no student


should absent himself / herself from class without sufficient reasons. No special / extra
classes will be conducted for students absent during regular classes (both theory and
practical.

In case of serious illness the principal must be informed on time, and leave application
should be accompanied by a doctor’s certificate. Long absence from the school without
prior intimation will be views seriously and they are liable to be removed from the roll.

Absence due to illness or any other reasons should be intimated at once. Prior permission
is required even for short period of a day or two. Leave record should be produced to the
principal on the next day after the absence countersigned by the class teacher.

Pupil will not be allowed to leave the school during the working hours. In case of
emergency, the parent or the guardian should seek permission form the principal
personally.

Absence from test or examinations will be considered a serous breach of school


discipline. Pupil who absents themselves from any of the terminal examinations, for any
reason, other than sickness justified by doctor certificate, will be considered as having
failed for that particular examination.

If the pupil is continuously absent for ten days without information his / her name will be
struck off the rolls. If re- admitted, she/he has to pay their admission fee of Rs.100/-

Students and teachers have to attend the morning assembly and join the prayers. Those
who happen to com late shall not enter the class, but report to the principal/ teacher
designate and get marked in the late attendance column in hand book. Routine late
coming will not be tolerated, but will be viewed seriously. Sick and unhealthy students
and those suffering from contagious diseases will not be permitted to attend the classes.

Note to the parents

Parents are requested to co –operate with the school authorities by enforcing regularity
and discipline, by seeing to it that the children prepare their lessons and by taking an
active interest in the activities of the school. They have to prepare a time table for home
study and supervise their assignments.
Parents are informed that remarks by the teachers are made in the students calendar
when necessary. They are requested to check the calendar and sign it, indicating that they
have seen the remarks. Parents expected to check for the home work and sign the hand
book everyday.

In any communication with the school, the name the standard and section of the children
should be clearly mentioned. Parents or guardians are also requested to notify the school
of any change in their address and telephone numbers as soon as possible.

Parents are requested to read carefully all circulars issued by the school from time to time
and take actions promptly. Timely action on circulars in the interest of the children.

Improper conduct reflecting on character, persistent, irregularity, continual neglect of


studies, disobedience, insubordination and disrespect towards any staff member,
malpractice at tests and examinations thieving, immoral behaviour and serious
intentional offences, are punishable by expulsion.

Availing leave for the following reasons must be avoided by student.

(a) Family function (But for blood relatives)


(b) Accompanying parents on tour.
(c) Simple religious ceremonies.
(d) Preparing for school examinations and other competitive examinations
(e) Attending to /entertaining relatives/visitors at home.

Habits like smoking, chewing betel nuts, pan parag, ect., are strictly prohibited inside the
campus including school office and reception. As for the govt. rule students are not
permitted to drive a vehicle. The management expects the same from the students when
they come to school.

Parents are welcome to the school to check the progress of their children. But they are not
allowed to meet their children or interview the teachers during school hours without the
permission of the principal. Teachers may be contacted only after school hours in the
evening on all working hours.

Complains by parents if any, or remarks about the staff or school functioning must be
brought to the notice of the principal or administrator, and not to the staff concerned.

Parents can consult the subject teachers to become aware of the defects and common
mistakes committed by their children in their answer sheets within the limited time
announced after the results of each tests.

Entrusting a pupil to the school implies that parents agree to stand by the rules and
regulations of the school and that they should see that their children also abide by the
students or teachers during the class hours. On emergencies they have to contract the
principal through the office.
The principal will always welcome your suggestions, comments and opinion. Do feel free
to see him or write to him. We believe that nothing much can be achieved without parents
co-operation. Parents can meet the principal between 9.30 am 12.30
