1. Pixels- small squares that compose an image


2. Image resolution- number of pixels in an image or how detailed the image is
3. Megabyte- a calculation of data storage capacity based on powers of two
4. Megapixel- unit of graphic resolution equivalent to one million pixels
5. Gigabyte- unit of information equivalent to one billion bytes
6. Jpeg- a format for compressing images
7. Raw- unprocessed photo captured with a camera
8. Tiff- computer file format for raster graphic images
9. Png- image saved in a portable network graphic file
10. White balance- process of removing unrealistic white color to white in the image
11. Histogram- graphic representation of tone values in an image
12. Aperture- defines size of lens opening to control amount of light reaching the sensor
13. Shutter speed- defines how long the shutter remains open as the picture is being taken
14. Depth of field- zone of sharpness that appears in focus
15. Aperture priority- setting that allows to set aperture while the camera matches the shutter
speed
16. Shutter priority- setting that allows to set shutter speed while adjusting the aperture
17. Bitmap- digital image composed of a matrix of dots
18. Exposure- unit of measurement for amount of light to reach sensor
19. Watermarking- an image, logo, or text over a picture for identifying creator
20. Optical zoom- allows a closer or farther view to subject
21. Digital zoom- method of which decreases or increases the angle of view of a digital photo
22. Bracketing- several shots of same subject using different settings
23. Light meter- device used to measure amount of light in a photo
24. Image stabilization- techniques that reduce chances of blurring
25. Noise- term used to describe visual distortion
26. Lag time- time between when button is pressed and the photo is taken
27. Hot shoe- metal brackets on top of camera connecting external devices
28. Fisheye- lens that is a wide angle lens with strong visual distortion
29. Macro- photography that is taken close up
30. Telephoto- photos being taken from a far
31. Wide angle- the focal length of a photo is smaller than normal
32. DSLR- a digital camera that combines the optics of a single lens reflex camera with a
digital imaging sensor
33. Dynamic range- difference between lightest and darkest tones in an image
34. Digital negative- imaging that provides long term storage of digital images
35. Exposure compensation- used to alter exposure from the value that was selected by the
camera
