INTERVIEWED CHEMICAL ENGINEER: Joanne Paula H. Turija
1. Why did you choose Adamson University in taking up Chemical Engineering?
May sister ako sa AdU that time. And, nung nagexam na ako for entrance test nabalitaan ko na
maganda ung program ng ChE, affordable din siya unlike any school so 👍🏻

2. Why did you enroll chemical engineering as your course? Is it your dream? Or your
parents' dream?
Hindi ko din alam. Haha nung una wala akong idea pero pag nandun kana maeenjoy mo na yung
process. So parang risk siya sa simula. Aand, siguro naimpluwensyahan lang din ng kapatid. Well, gusto
ko kasi maging engineer eh and naenjoy ko ung chemistry nung highschool. Haha. Sa Beda ako nagtry,
nasa option ko kasi nun ang Accountancy pinapatry ng mother ko.
3. What was the major problem you encountered during your college life?
Checal

problems? On the other hand, what are the subjects that you exceled in?
Oo naman jusko dalawang stages yung big 3. Sa topics nako nagenjoy. Haha weird. Hindi naman
mahirap topics. Pero depende na kasi yan sa nagtuturo eh. Haha saka sa willingness mo magsolve lagi ng
mga problems. Grabe kasi noon parang one whole week ung pagaaral ng topics plus whole day ka pa nasa
library or every time na may break ka library ganon. Nandun na kasi lahat ng summary ng inaral mo the
whole year so parang alam mo na lahat eh. Tsaka along the way may matututunan kapadin so medj
naenjoy siya haha kahit kastress

Naisipan ko maglipat ng school. Pero never nang course. TIP ata? Haha pero wala lang isip lang

Reflection:
When I interviewed Engr. Turija, I did not felt discourage because of the hardships she has
endured during her stay at Adamson University. I saw a lot of similarities with both why we chose
Chemical engineering as our degree for college. We both liked Chemistry during high school and we both
had a strong desire to be an engineer. In addition we both wanted high salaries.
She truly inspired me to pursue the course until the end and she encouraged me to understand and
take care of other things beside my academics because there are more important aspects to college besides
the grades and achievements that I might achieve alone. Furthermore, her story of continuing the long and
difficult journey even if she has failed a subject that forced her to stray from the path by a couple of steps
has triggered and released my fear of failure that there is still a ray of light even if you fail. Taking up
Chemical Engineering may be a mountain full of paths that would make you fall, remember that standing up even
when you’re already bruised will always be better than slopping down and giving up. Seeing from her experience,
graduating from AdU with a ChE degree is fulfilling, secure life and opens a huge door of possibilities for careers.

Overall, I shall continue pursuing my dream whatever it takes. Obstacles will always be obstacles and I will
continue to overcome them courageously and with confidence until I am finished with my career as a Chemical
Engineer. ChE is a difficult course but in the end I believe that it is worth it to achieve my goal and continue to
discover the unknown.
