In my class, there were 23 students.
The students’ ages ranged from six to seven.
First grade classroom. The students learn subjects such as Math,
Writing, Fundations, Reading, etc.
All of the students spoke English as their main language, however
some of them knew some words to other languages. For example, one
of the students knew some words and phrases in Mandarin.
The class had more males than females, having nine females and 14
males.
In my class, there was a good chunk of kids who required extra help,
because of this, we had three other teachers, besides my main
cooperating teacher, in the classroom to help meet the needs of
specific students.
The climate of the classroom was great. It was very accepting, there
was the perfect amount of nurturing, it was very organized, and overall
it was a very happy, positive environment.
I think that the teachers played a great role in making the climate this
way. They taught the children not only how to be good students and
how to learn the material, but they also taught the children how to be
good people.
The students knew what good choices were, along with bad choices,
and because of this, they didn’t make those bad choices. The kids
knew how to get along, how to support and accept one another. They
knew to include one another despite their differences, and I think the
teachers had a huge part in almost raising the kids to act that way in
their classroom. The class was amazing, the teachers were amazing
role models and people, and the students were just overall great kids.
The classroom had a great positive environment, and I wouldn’t want
my future classroom to be any different.
