1) State Ohm’s law and list the limitations.

2) Describe how AC voltage can be generated. List the advantages of generated voltage
being sinusoidal.

3) State Kirchhoff’s laws as applied to DC Circuits

4) Derive an equation for effective value of an alternating current which is varying


sinusoidally.

5) Describe how an alternating quantity can be represented by vectors? Hence discuss


the terms such as phase and phase difference.

6) Define the following terms related to electric circuits


i. Instantaneous value
ii. RMS value of an AC signal
iii. Average of an AC signal
iv. Form factor
v. Peak factor

7) Two Resistances 20Ω and 40Ω are connected in parallel. A resistance of 10Ω is
connected in series with the combination. A voltage of 200V is applied across the
circuit. Find the current in each resistance and voltage across 10Ω. Find also the
power consumed in all the resistances.

the root mean square value of a sine wave having the same peak value

10) The equation for an alternating current is given by i = 28.28 . Find its
RMS value, frequency and phase angle.

11) An alternating current varying sinusoidally with a frequency of 50 Hz has an RMS


value of 20A.
i) Write down the equation for instantaneous value for current after passing through
a first +ve maximum value.
ii) Find the value of instantaneous current at a instant 0.0125 sec
iii) At what time measured from the +ve maximum value, will the instantaneous
current be 14.14A.

12) Determine the potential difference between the points X and Y in the network shown
below.
