Apartment Complex; 3601 Kernan Blvd South, Jacksonville, FL; LIFE various Arc locations

Member Type: ​Half Time | Achieving 900 Hours


Service Time​: 8am-10pm week days (member would serve within these timeframes, not
necessarily the entire duration). This does not include in-service obligations, service at Club
Arc, or other service obligations, which a member will be notified to in advance.

Member Service Objective: Member serves as a mentor for adults with intellectual &
developmental disabilities &/or mental health disorders in Duval county. The members are
serving in partnership with The Arc Jacksonville and agree to abide by the mission & vision of
the agency.
Performance Measures: Healthy Futures

Performance Measure Objectives:


Achieve an 80% or higher success rate with assigned clients demonstrated through each client
showing progress from the pre-test to the post-test. Progress shows increased knowledge in
accessing healthcare, participating in health management, healthy life style choices, nutrition,
and preventative techniques for relevant medical conditions, fitness, inclusive community
activities and increased social ties.

Position Orientation & Training:


● Member will receive an orientation to include required member trainings: Disability
Awareness & Etiquette, Diversity, Citizenship, & Zero Tolerance. Member will be
provided access to First Aid/CPR training, HIPAA, Mental Health First Aid & Disaster
Preparedness training. Orientation will also cover prohibited activities in detail (listed
below), review of contracts, and other pertinent agency and site information.

▪ Assist residential students with creating independent living goals and track of students’
progress

▪ Assist and provide mentoring with students in Wellness: meal planning, cooking, and
grocery shopping, nutrition education, fitness opportunities, stress management tactics,
and time management tips
▪ Assist and provide mentoring with students in Financial Literacy: budgeting and saving
▪ Plan and coordinate activities that engage students in the local community- community
inclusion
▪ Develop and implement individualized experiential activities (i.e. computer training,
community safety, travel training, etc.)
▪ Develop and implement social activities and provide social mentoring (i.e., friendship
mentoring, relationship mentoring, exploring interests and hobbies)
▪ Meet with Residential Program Coordinator weekly to provide student progress and
member performance
▪ Collaborate with daytime AmeriCorps members to provide updates on student progress in
Financial Literacy, Wellness, and Employment knowledge
▪ Prepare reports and compile data for all mentoring activities to be submitted to On-Site
Supervisor and AmeriCorps Program Director quarterly
▪ Attend mandatory AmeriCorps monthly meetings
▪ Attend mandatory National Days of Service-September 11​th​, MLK Day
▪ Abide by all service site policies and procedures as well as adhere to all AmeriCorps
policies per the AmeriCorps handbook
▪ Provide customized services to persons with developmental disabilities at other
locations/programs of The Arc Jacksonville as needed
▪ Periodically serve at Club Arc at Program Director’s request

Position Requirements:
● At a minimum, members must be high school graduates, GED recipients, working toward
attaining a high school diploma or GED during their term of service. Members must
agree to obtain either a diploma or GED before using an education award.
● Member must be 18 & order to serve as an AmeriCorps member with The Arc
Jacksonville
● Member must pass a National Criminal History Background check- to include a drug
screen, an FBI background check via fingerprints, a local background check, and their
name run through the National Sex Offender database (​www.nsopw.gov​). This is
contingent on any member beginning their service year.
● Member must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.

Position Benefits:
● $3,047.50 Educational Award contingent upon successful completion of service.
● $287.15 bi-weekly living allowance for half time service hours
