Basketball is a team sport, played between two games of five players each for four periods or quarters of

ten or twelve minutes each. The goal of the team

is to score points by introducing a ball through
the basket, a ring 3.05 meters above the surface
of the playing field from which hangs a red one.
The score for each basket or basket is two or
three points, affected by the position since the
shot is made to the basket, one, if it is a free
throw due to the lack of an opposing player. The
winning team is the one with the highest number
of points.

The contact with the ball is made with the hands. Players, also basketball players, cannot move the ball,
but throw it against the ground. The team in possession of the ball or the attacker tries to score points
through shots, baskets or killings, while the defending team tries to avoid stealing the ball or making caps.
When a shot to the basket fails, players from both teams try to catch the rebound.

James Naismith, a Canadian professor of physical education, invented basketball in 1891 at the YMCA in
Springfield, Massachusetts, United States. The sport won quickly and expanded through American
universities and colleges in the early twentieth century.

Olympics in 1936. In 1946 the main professional league of the United States, the National Basketball

and, later, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Moses Malone, Larry
Bird, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan, the latter
considered by many to be the best player of history.
