9.1 THE CALLER AND THE ISLAMIC
WORLDVIEW
IN THE CONTEXT OF DA’WAH
As a caller, the da’ei needs to understand the
Islamic worldview besides knowing the
basic belief of other religions. In other words,
the da’ei has to know all the fundamental
knowledge about Islam, particularly on the
Islamic theology (‘aqidah)

WAYS OF DEALING WITH
THE BELIEF OF THE
CALLED (AUDIENCE)

9.2.1 Understanding the belief of the
Called (Mad’u) and Its Significant
Who are the called; (All mankind); types of called:
* Kings and rich people, Masses (Majority of people).
* Revealed religion, non-revealed religion, and Hypocrite.
* Muslims and Non-Muslims
the success of Da’wah to the non-Muslim will depend
very much on how we can convince them about Islam
and make comparison with their existing
beliefs/religions
Da’ie should know the fundamental beliefs of their
audience because the inner belief has great implication
to their actions, way of thinking, personality etc.

to carefully handle the sensitive issues relating
to the audience’s existing belief, thus it will
ensure that the Da’wah works running
smoothly and effectively
E.g: Buddhism
Buddha means the Awakened, the
Enlightened. started after the enlightenment
of Siddharta Gautama – 6-5 BCE, in India
1. On God: No clear concept of God.
2. On Existence and Life: World/ Life is maya -an
illusion.

Doctrine: Rebirth – Karma Samsara – Nirvana
Buddhism stands of the four noble truths:
(1) All existence is dukkha - suffering or unhappiness.
(2) The cause of dukkha is tanha - one’s selfish desire or
attachment to life which springs from the illusion of self.
(3) The way to escape from dukkha is by eliminating all
selfish craving and desire (rejection of life and existence).
(4) The way to attain non-attachment is called the Middle
Way, the eightfold path to nirvana (happiness) (free from
tanha, happiness is attained).
Rituals: by meditation; to attain spirituality

Path to Nirvana
The nirvana (i.e. happiness, extinction, going out
or free from all tanha) is attained through:
1. ‘Right’ understanding/view
2. ‘Right’ intention/motive
3. ‘Right’ speech
4. ‘Right’ conduct
5. ‘Right’ occupation
6. ‘Right’ endeavour
7. ‘Right’ contemplation, and
8. ‘Right’ concentration.

Eg: Hinduism:
1. On God: the Absolute Reality consisting
of:
God: Trimurthy : Brahma (God the Creator)
Vishnu (God the Sustainer) , Shiva (God
the Destroyer).
2. On Man and life:
Life is seen as karma (action) whether it is
good or bad.
Hindu also believed in the doctrine of
“rebirth” to life on earth known as samsara.

Caste System:
Brahmins: scholars, priests, learned,
teaches Vedas
Khsatriya: rulers, armies, learn Vedas
Vaisyas: middle class, professionals, learn
only Smriti scriptures
Sudras:laborers, servants,
Harijans (outcastes): beggars, sub castes

3. On Universe:
No eternal retribution in heaven or hell.
Karma Samsara, rebirth/the cycle of life
Seek to be liberated from karma, to achieve
Mokhsa
Mokhsa state either
Unity with Brahma, no rebirths
Join gods in mood, long life, but reborn back into caste
system

9.2.2 General Guidelines for Da’ie in
dealing with the audience from different
religions (beliefs)
i. Conduct an academic research or study on the
fundamental principles of other religions
(basic values, sources, etc)
ii. Avoid any wrong information/ideas/orders
about other religions (by making your own
conclusion without any concrete evidence)
iii. Study on the commitment of the called to
their beliefs
