Verses about mouth and talking

Genesis 18:27-28
Abraham came back, “Do I, a mere mortal made from a
handful of dirt, dare open my mouth again to my
Master?

Exodus 4:11-12
God said, “And who do you think made the
human mouth? And who makes some mute, some deaf,
some sighted, some blind? Isn’t it I, God? So, get going.
I’ll be right there with you—with your mouth! I’ll be
right there to teach you what to say.”

Exodus 14:14
God will fight the battle for you. And you? You keep
your mouths shut!”

Numbers 16:9-11
He has brought you and all your brother Levites into his
inner circle, and now you’re grasping for the priesthood,
too. It’s God you’ve ganged up against, not us. What do
you have against Aaron that you’re bad-mouthing
him?”(if you choose to bad-mouth somebody this shows
that clearly you have something against that person)

Deuteronomy 8:1-5
Keep and live out the entire commandment that I’m
commanding you today so that you’ll live and prosper
and enter and own the land that God promised to your
ancestors. Remember every road that God led you on for
those forty years in the wilderness, pushing you to your
limits, testing you so that he would know what you were
made of, whether you would keep his commandments or
not. He put you through hard times. He made you go
hungry. Then he fed you with manna, something neither
you nor your parents knew anything about, so you would
learn that men and women don’t live by bread only; we
live by every word that comes from God’s mouth. Your
clothes didn’t wear out and your feet didn’t blister those
forty years. You learned deep in your heart
that God disciplines you in the same ways a father
disciplines his child.

Job 13:3-5
“I’m taking my case straight to God Almighty; I’ve had it
with you—I’m going directly to God. You graffiti my life
with lies. You’re a bunch of pompous quacks! I wish
you’d shut your mouths— silence is your only claim to
wisdom.

Job 40:3-5
Job answered: “I’m speechless, in awe—words fail me. I
should never have opened my mouth! I’ve talked too
much, way too much. I’m ready to shut up and listen.”

Psalm 4:4-5
Complain if you must, but don’t lash out. Keep
your mouth shut, and let your heart do the talking.
Build your case before God and wait for his verdict.

Psalm 34:8
Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see—
how good God is. Blessed are you who run to him.
Psalm 39:7-11
“What am I doing in the meantime, Lord? Hoping, that’s
what I’m doing—hoping You’ll save me from a rebel life,
save me from the contempt of dunces. I’ll say no more,
I’ll shut my mouth, since you, Lord, are behind all this.
But I can’t take it much longer. When you put us through
the fire to purge us from our sin, our dearest idols go up
in smoke. Are we also nothing but smoke?”

Psalm 101:2-6
I’m doing the very best I can, and I’m doing it at home,
where it counts. I refuse to take a second look at
corrupting people and degrading things. I reject made-
in-Canaan gods, stay clear of contamination. The
crooked in heart keep their distance; I refuse to shake
hands with those who plan evil. I put a gag (a piece of
cloth) on the gossip who bad-mouths his neighbour; I
can’t stand arrogance. But I have my eye on salt-of-the-
earth people— they’re the ones I want working with me;
Men and women on the straight and narrow— these are
the ones I want at my side.

Psalm 119:65-72
Be good to your servant, God; be as good as your Word.
Train me in good common sense; I’m thoroughly
committed to living your way. Before I learned to answer
you, I wandered all over the place, but now I’m in step
with your Word. You are good, and the source of good;
train me in your goodness. The godless spread lies about
me, but I focus my attention on what you are saying;
They’re bland as a bucket of lard, while I dance to the
tune of your revelation. My troubles turned out all for the
best— they forced me to learn from your textbook. Truth
from your mouth means more to me than striking it rich
in a gold mine.
Psalm 141:3-5
Post a guard at my mouth, God, set a watch at the door
of my lips. Don’t let me so much as dream of evil or
thoughtlessly fall into bad company. And these people
who only do wrong— don’t let them lure me with their
sweet talk! May the Just One set me straight, may the
Kind One correct me, Don’t let sin anoint my head.

Proverbs 4:23-27
Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life
starts. Don’t talk out of both sides of your mouth; avoid
careless banter, white lies, and gossip.

Proverbs 17:28
Even dunces who keep quiet are thought to be wise; as
long as they keep their mouths shut, they’re smart.

Ecclesiastes 5:2
Don’t shoot off your mouth, or speak before you think.
Don’t be too quick to tell God what you think he wants to
hear. God’s in charge, not you—the less you speak, the
better.

Ecclesiastes 10:20
Don’t bad-mouth your leaders, not even under your
breath, and don’t abuse your betters, even in the privacy
of your home. Loose talk has a way of getting picked up
and spread around. Little birds drop the crumbs of your
gossip far and wide.

Hosea 2:16-20
“At that time”—this is God’s Message still— “you’ll
address me, ‘Dear husband!’ Never again will you
address me, ‘My slave-master!’ I’ll wash your mouth out
with soap, get rid of all the dirty false-god names, not so
much as a whisper of those names again. At the same
time I’ll make a peace treaty between you and wild
animals and birds and reptiles, and get rid of all weapons
of war. Think of it! Safe from beasts and bullies! And
then I’ll marry you for good—forever! I’ll marry you true
and proper, in love and tenderness. Yes, I’ll marry you
and neither leave you nor let you go. You’ll know
me, God, for who I really am.

Matthew 15:16-20
Jesus replied, “You, too? Are you being willfully stupid?
Don’t you know that anything that is swallowed works its
way through the intestines and is finally defecated? But
what comes out of the mouth gets its start in the heart.
It’s from the heart that we vomit up evil arguments,
murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, lies, and
cussing. That’s what pollutes. Eating or not eating certain
foods, washing or not washing your hands—that’s neither
here nor there.”

Matthew 27:12-14
But when the accusations rained down hot and heavy
from the high priests and religious leaders, He said
nothing. Pilate asked him, “Do you hear that long list of
accusations? Aren’t you going to say something?” Jesus
kept silence—not a word from his mouth. The governor
was impressed, really impressed.

Luke 11:53-54
As soon as Jesus left the table, the religion scholars and
Pharisees went into a rage. They went over and over
everything he said, plotting how they could trap him in
something from his own mouth.
Luke 12:10
If you bad-mouth the Son of Man out of
misunderstanding or ignorance, that can be overlooked.
But if you’re knowingly attacking God himself, taking aim
at the Holy Spirit, that won’t be overlooked.

Ephesians 4:29
Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come
out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a
gift.

Colossians 4:2-4
Pray diligently. Stay alert, with your eyes wide open in
gratitude. Don’t forget to pray for us, that God will open
doors for telling the mystery of Christ, even while I’m
locked up in this jail. Pray that every time I open
my mouth I’ll be able to make Christ plain as day to
them.

1 Timothy 6:2-5
These are the things I want you to teach and preach. If
you have leaders there who teach otherwise, who refuse
the solid words of our Master Jesus and this godly
instruction, tag them for what they are: ignorant
windbags who infect the air with germs of envy,
controversy, bad-mouthing, suspicious rumors.
Eventually there’s an epidemic of backstabbing, and
truth is but a distant memory. They think religion is a
way to make a fast buck.

James 3:1-2
Don’t be in any rush to become a teacher, my friends.
Teaching is highly responsible work. Teachers are held to
the strictest standards. And none of us is perfectly
qualified. We get it wrong nearly every time we open
our mouths. If you could find someone whose speech
was perfectly true, you’d have a perfect person, in
perfect control of life.

James 3:5-6
It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire.
A careless or wrongly placed word out of
your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the
world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a
reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up
in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell.

James 4:11-12
Don’t bad-mouth each other, friends. It’s God’s Word,
his Message, his Royal Rule, that takes a beating in that
kind of talk. You’re supposed to be honouring the
Message, not writing graffiti all over it. God is in charge
of deciding human destiny. Who do you think you are to
meddle in the destiny of others?
