liability is capped at Rs. 1,500 crore. In earlier drafts, the cap was Rs. 500 crore.
26 Auqust The Union Cabinet approves the long-awaited Direct Taxes Code Bill under which the
government has proposed to like the income tax exemption limit from the existing base of
Rs. 1.6 lakh to Rs. 2 lakh. The Bill also seeks to remove surcharge and cesses on corporate
tax asa measure of providing relief to industry while simplifyig taxation norms.
