Comprehension & Composition - Comprehension

Read the poem below and answer the questions that follow. You will be
awarded marks for grammar, punctuation, spelling and handwriting.

Intrusions

Last night, as I lay fast asleep,

We had some snow, not very deep.
It melted in the morning sun
And all had gone by half-past one.

The night before, I woke from sleep.

To bleating of a cornered sheep.
She bleated till the break of day
Till someone helped her get away.

Wednesday, this afternoon, some jets flew by,

Shattering the silence of the sky.
Once, twice, thrice they passed, and then
The country side was quiet again.

By stealth, persistence, force,

Life is diverted from its course.

J. M. Sharman

“The bell was already ringing for first period as Livi (Olivia) ran into
the locker room to put her music away. It was French which she hated
and could see little point in, since every French person she had ever
met spoke perfectly serviceable English. Livi preferred logical subjects
like maths and science, that had rules that made sense and never
changed. Worse still, it was Friday, so it would be reading comprehen-
sion, which meant concentrating like crazy, and how could she be ex-
pected to concentrate with the thought of what she was about to say to
Adam.”
