TUBERCULOSIS THERAPY IN CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES
An Effective Nurse-led Approach to Tuberculosis Control in Prisons

Research project

Tuberculosis is a dangerous disease that spreads rapidly in congested settings. Lost-to-

follow-up patients have crippled most therapy plans. Again, poor administration of the treatment

plan is a challenge because inmates aren't o a strict mapping to ensure they consume the

medication. Therefore, the project targets to devise an accurate and useful therapy plan to

improve the treatment of TB patients. A nine-month comprehensive plan of treatment would be

used. The use of the extended therapy plan is due to the prevalence of cases of inmates skipping

medication (Ahmed et al., 2020). The outcome would be compared with the short-run 3-month

therapy plan to determine the optimal strategy.

Research question

Does the short therapy plan provide by Nurse every week for 3 months lower TB cases in

a correctional setting?

The current study will utilize the following quantitative tests due to explained benefits

T-test – It will help in determining whether my exogenous various are significant in

influencing in the endogenous variable

Regression – The research will analyze the quantify of impact on endogenous variable due to

variations in the independent variables

ANOVA – It will enable determination of Total Sum of Squares, Estimated Sum of Squares as

well as Residual Sum of Squares

TUBERCULOSIS THERAPY IN CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES
dependent variable: Treatment plan efficacy – It will be measured by number of recovered

patients in the nine-month therapy program

Independent variable: Number of days taken to recover

Null hypothesis

Short therapy plan provided by Nurse on a weekly basis for a duration of 3 months

lowers TB cases in correctional setting.

Alternative hypothesis

Short therapy plan provided by Nurse on a weekly basis for a duration of 3 months does

not lower TB cases in correctional setting.
