Trend spotting

Trend spotting means identification of new trends. Trend spotting helps us to analyze and
predict where the culture is going. Li Edelkoort is the first trend forecaster woman and also
an established icon in the fashion industry. Trend spotting has grown to become a crucial
component of how entrepreneurs, organizations, celebrities, and brands remain connected
with cultural developments.

Trend spotting is about pattern recognition. The fact that something is trendy does not
mean that it will disappear, in fact, many trends reflect important shifts in the evolution of
our culture that are irreversible. And this is why it is such an important field, if change is
constant, trend spotting constantly works to help you keep up with change.

Types of Problems Trend Spotters Solve

Trend spotting is done to solve many problems, some of the same are listed below:

1. An individual is starting a business. What can he do to create a superior business plan,

product, or service to ensure the success of my venture? How do he make sure he is
building a business based on an emerging need that is destined to grow?
2. A company’s design and engineering departments have conflicting perspectives on a
future product. So, trend spotters inspire them in a way that aligns their points-of-view
and re-align the business goals.
3. A company seems to have lost sight of what the market demands. The target audience
has changed and they need to re-align the internal mindset with the mindset of our
end-user.
4. A Company is planning the launch of a new bricks and mortar store; what’s the retail
ecosystem like over there? How do they design a store that will be both attractive to
shoppers and push the boundaries of what exists locally?
5. Trend spotters have a passion for photography and writing. They monetize these
passions so that they make money doing what they love?
6. What technological and scientific breakthroughs will impact the future of my industry?

Trend spotting can work to clarify your vision, helps to understand on-ground reality and
can be further developed by layering on other research methodologies. If executed well, it
helps create opportunities to work with social scientists or statisticians to verify actionable
trends, enrich the vision, and help to strategize.

So we went to Forum mall and In-orbit mall for trend spotting and the following trends
were spotted
 Animal Prints
 Geometrical Prints
 Monochromatic theme
 Spring florals
ANIMAL PRINTS-
Animal prints have been having their moment all of winter and
summer. Animal prints continues into the spring/ summer 2019
print trends, especially with cheetah, zebra, and snakeskin
patterns.
Dolce & Gabbana is a brand that never shies away from animal
prints, and this year was no different, with leopard reigning. At
Burberry, we even saw some Dalmatian print!
Roberto Cavalli went all out, mixing different kinds of animal prints.
Some of the other notable animal print offerings came from Gucci,
Tod’s, and Tom Ford.
In In-orbit and Forum mall we found
that maximum number of prints in all
the brands were animal prints. Not
only in clothing but also in
accessories, footwear we found these
animal prints. Maximum number of
animal prints were found in Marks N
Spencer, H&M, Accessorize London

GEOMETRICAL PRINTS-
One of the more austere spring 2019 print trends is checked
patterns, especially on jackets, shirts and tops, but it also showed
up on dresses.
Plaid and tartan fabrics are usually associated with more old-
fashioned and conservative fashion, so it is a treat to see them
become part of the spring/ summer 2019 prints.
Solid stripes are one of those patterns that behave almost like a
neutral, and as such they are plentiful in the spring 2019 print
trends. There is a near even mixture of diagonal, horizontal, and
vertical stripes.
Especially in H&M black and white color theme was seen in
geometrical prints. Check shirts were available almost in every
brand. We have seen abstract geometrics, checks, stripes,
hounds’ tooth in namely H&M, Marks and Spencer, Shopper Stop
etc. Not only in clothing but also in accessories, we found
geometrical prints in trend.

MONOCHROMATIC THEME-
The word “monochromatic” breaks down into two pieces:
“mono” meaning single and “chromatic” meaning color.
Monochromatic in fashion terms is wearing an outfit
comprised of only one color; it can be of the same shade or
different shades; the idea is to keep the shades in the same
hue. It can be bright colors, dark colors, it can even be nude
colors. It all depends on what color you choose to go with.
When done correctly a monochromatic outfit can look both
stylish and fashion-forward.

Things Keep in mind when putting together a monochromatic outfit:

 Mix Textures in Your monochrome - texture is an important element when putting

together monochromatic looks, outfit were comprised of the same fabric
throughout, it would likely come off looking dull.

 Achieve Balance – the tops and bottoms must be paired nicely.

 Accentuate the right areas
 Select the Right Monochromatic Colors – colors that suit the skin type must be
chosen.
 Add in a Touch of Pattern
 A Petite Advantage – It helps the petite/small people to look taller and slimmer.

After attending the spring 2019 fashion shows, San Diego-based

personal stylist Vanessa Valiente revealed that "monochromatic
looks" are definitely in fashion. Sally La Pointe, Tibi and Burberry
showed Monochromatic examples on ramps.
In the visit to in-orbit and forum mall, Monochromatic trend was
spotted in H&M, Marks and Spencer’s, Multi brand outlet like
Shoppers Stop, Trends, Zara.

SOFT FLORALS-
Spring is incomplete without Floral prints. Florals have long held a place in our hearts - in
apparel as well as in home decorating. Floral fabrics work well in just about any application.
Floral is such a versatile pattern, they are lovely - in a variety of colors and styles., there are
tons of ways to make it work for personalized style.
Like Paisleys – A pattern having a motif shaped like a droplet or palm leaf, in a recurring
design. Paisley pattern is a very popular pattern, used in modern as well as traditional
designs. It has floral/abstract swirls and intricate details incorporated into it, making each
motif distinct from many others.
Like Tropicals - Prints featuring themes and motifs that perfectly capture the tropical
experience, have bright tones which perfectly adds the beachy, boho feel to casual
occasions offering fun and flair to any outfit.

Other than paisleys and tropicals;

Soft Floral Prints - are romantic, floating and printed on floaty materials to emphasize the
romantic and airy appeal of their softness.
Micro Florals - are the petit and sweet prints designed for more feminine and fresh
springtime wear, has been shown on sheer and semi sheer clothing (thin, transparent cloth)
Big Florals – Big floral designs on clothing giving it an appealing look.

Paisley prints are in trend in 2019. At Etro, a colorful paisley print

was used to decorate a sportier surfer swimsuit and jacket, although
it also showed up on dresses and other more classic designs. Isabel
Marant’s travel-inspired collection turned the attention of fashion
enthusiasts to dresses made of paisley patterned fabrics in a
bohemian style. Also, paisley was seen on ‘60s-inspired designs at
Peter Pilotto and Chloe.

In Florals, soft florals and darker themed

florals are in vogue in 2019. At Simone Rocha,
busy floral prints were combined with retro
silhouettes for an austere effect. Soft florals
made an appearance as part of designer
Rodarte’s timelessly feminine collection,
pairing well with tulle and lace. Erdem gave us
a more serious spin on florals, using a black
pattern to decorate colorful dresses and suits.

Floral Cloth Napkins, scarves, shoes and Bellies are in trend

in 2019.

In the visit to In-orbit and Forum mall, Floral trend was spotted in H&M, Marks And
Spencer's, Multi Brand Outlet Like Shoppers Stop, Trends, Zara, and accessories of brands
