Overview:

Leadership is a phenomenon that drives all the resource of a business organization to the right
directions so that the goals of the business can be achieved. Leaders educate human resource
about the mission and vision of the organization. Leaders convince the human resource of an
organization to put their best effort to achieve that mission and vision. Leaders cooperate with
the employees of all rank and provide their valuable inputs to facilitate the employees to
accomplish the goals of the projects assigned. Leaders drive the human resource towards
perfection and pave the way for optimum level of utilization of all resources to achieve success.

My leadership strengths:
The following are my leadership strengths:
Figure 1: DICE Self-Assessment

After appearing at the self-assessment test of strength like DISC test or Dominance, Influence,
Steadiness, and Conscientious assessment, I have come to know about all of my strengths.
According to the assessment, my strengths are Conscientious ‘C’ Style strengths. This type of
strength includes accuracy. In this context, the self-assessment also indicates to the fact that, if
I am given the responsibility to lead a group of subordinates, I will influence them by
contributing detailed as well as accurate inputs to the team efforts. According to the result of
the self-assessment, the other strength of mine is dependability. As per the self-assessment
result, my other strengths are dependability as well as collaborative nature.

The result of the self-assessment also revealed that independence is one of the significant
strengths of mine. In this context, the test result concludes that it is my power of independent
decision making for which all the decision. From this assessment, I come to know that
clarification in communicating the vision and mission of the organization is the other strength
of minebe able to test my functioning as a leader. With the help of this strength, I will be able
to find out the loopholes of my functioning as a leader and bridge the gap between the
expectation of the organization and the real outcome received easily. As per the report of the
assessment under conscientious leadership style, the other strength that I exhibit is caginess,
resourceful, and careful attitude, all these evidence that I will be inclined to perfection as a
leader.

Matching strengths with leadership roles:

The roles of a leader within an organisation is that of a coach, facilitator, and strategist,
influencer along with a decision-maker (Nanjundeswaraswamy and Swamy 2014). The various
leadership strength I possess helps me to play versatile leadership roles. As one of my
leadership strengths is accuracy, it helps me to play the role of a coach. Further, my caginess,
carefulness as well as inclination to perfection are other attributes that facilitate me to play the
role of a coach and rectify the mistakes of my subordinates. In this way, I can help my
subordinates to exhibit accuracy and perfection through their performance (Yahaya and
Ebrahim 2016). Dependability, as well as collaborative nature, are two significant leadership
strengths of mine, which I can utilize to play another leadership role, that is, the role of a
facilitator. I work in collaboration with my subordinates and add value to the efforts of the
teams I am leading to make their task of actualizing the vision of the organization easier. My
caginess, clarification in communication are the other strength I possess, which help me to play
the role of a strategist perfectly. Cageyness help me to think strategically, and clarification
assists me to communicate my subordinates clearly, how those strategies will facilitate in the
actualization of the mission and vision of the organization. My power to influence my
subordinates with detailed and accurate inputs helps me to become an influencer. I can play
the role of a fair decision-maker using my independent and unbiased nature of decision making
as my leadership strengths.

Impact of my strengths on the preferred leadership style:

My leadership strengths have a strong connection with authoritarian leadership style under the
authoritarian leadership style the leaders tend to cast upon a deep influence on the
subordinates with the help of their power to direct them to the perfection. In this context,
authoritarian leaders tend to enforce regulations on the activities of their subordinates
(Nanjundeswaraswamy and Swamy 2014). This means that authoritarian leaders impose
regulations on their subordinates independently. Leadership strength, like independence, can
be related to authoritarian leadership. Like an authoritarian leader, I also exhibit independence
while making decisions regarding the way I need to direct and influence my subordinates. My
leadership strengths, like accuracy, can be related to the authoritarian leadership style. As I
tend to influence my subordinates with accurate inputs, I expect the same from them. In order
to foster accuracy in the performance of my subordinates, I tend to impose rules and regulation
on their activities. My leadership strengths can also be related to the democratic leadership
style. As per the self-assessment result dependability, as well as collaboration, are two of my
significant leadership strengths. Hence, like a democratic leader, I work in collaboration with
the member of the team I am leading I indulge into interactive actions and help the team I am
leading with valuable inputs (Parés Ospina and Subirats 2017). This reflects my dependability
like a democratic leader (Yahaya and Ebrahim 2016). However, my leadership strengths cannot
relate to the laissez-faire leadership style. Unlike the laissez-faire leaders, I never deny my
responsibilities as a leader. I also foster fruitful interaction with my subordinates and provide
valuable suggestions, even when I am not asked to provide. All this evidence that my leadership
strengths have no similarity with the laissez-faire leadership style.

Justification (theorization) of the chosen leadership style:

My preferred leadership style is democratic leadership style. I can justify the compatibility of
my leadership strengths with a democratic leadership style by using the behavioural theories of
leadership. The behavioural theory of leadership focus on the way leaders behaves and
emphasize that people are not born with any specific leadership style rather inculcation of
some leadership strengths can make a person a leader (Byrne et al. 2014). According to this
theory, the behaviour of a leader determines his or her leadership style. By implementing
behavioural theory, I come to know that my strengths cast upon remarkable impacts on
democratic leadership style (Sethuraman and Suresh 2014). It is clear from the self-assessment
that the clarification in communicating the vision and mission of the organization is one of my
valuable strengths. In this way, like a democratic leader, I involve my subordinates as well as
employees of all rank while setting organizational goals as well as discussing the vision of the
organization (Teles 2015). Another strength of mine is to provide accurate inputs to the group
efforts. This shows that as a democratic leader, I engage in two-way communication with my
subordinates or with the group I am leading (Arnold et al. 2015).

Conclusion:

Finally, I can conclude that my leadership strengths are accuracy, the power to influence,
dependability, independent decision making, and ability to communicate clearly, self-testing
skills, cagey, resourcefulness, caring nature and inclination to perfection. All such leadership
strengths help me to play several leadership roles like-coach, strategist, facilitator, decision-
maker, influencer, visionary. With the use of the behavioral theory of leadership, I come to
know that the leadership strengths I have are compatible with a democratic leadership style.
Thus, I can call myself a democratic leader.
