Bending Roll Machine Definition

Bending is a work by putting pressure on certain parts so that plastic deformation occurs on the part
that is stressed. While the bending process is the process of bending or bending using manual bending
tools or using a bending machine. Bending is usually done on low carbon steel plate material to produce
a product from plate material. Roll or roll plate bending machine is one of the lats that are needed to
make tanks or pipes. Because this roll machine can turn a plate into a round roll. Roll bending is bending
that is usually used to form cylinders, or circular curved shapes of metal plates inserted in a rotating roll.
The roll pushes and forms a rotating plate continuously until a cylinder is formed.

How it Works

In short, the workings of rolling are with two pedestals at the end of the plate, given a compressive force
from top to bottom in the middle of the plate. By using two mattresses (cradle) as a plate holder, and
one pressure mat. After the plates above the two rotary mats, push the plate downward by turning the
regulating screw so that it gets a cylindrical plate.

Types of bending plate processes:

angel bending

is the formation of a plate or iron by bending certain parts of the plate to get the desired bending
results. In addition to bending, this work can also cut the inserted plate and can also make curves with
an angle of approximately to the sheet metal. Examples of workmanship such as L, V, and U-shaped
plate cuts.

press brake bending

Press brake bending is a bending job that uses a press and a mold. This process forms a plate that is
placed on top of the mold and then pressed by a pressure from above so that it gets the same bending
results with the mold. generally U-shaped mold, / W and there are also those that have certain shapes.

Draw a bending

that is, the job of printing plates using a roll press and a mold. The spinning roll presses the plate and is
pushed towards the mold. Formation with draw bending is very fast and produces many results, but the
disadvantage is in objects that occur too big springback so that the results are less than the maximum.

Bending roll

that is, bending is usually used to form cylinders, or circular shapes of metal plates inserted in a rotating
roll. The roll pushes and forms a continuous rotating plate until a cylinder is formed.

ROLL FORMING

In roll formation, the material has a length and each is bent individually by a roll. To bend long material,
use a pair of walking roll. in this process also known as forming by forming contours through cold work
in metal forming. ) ogam is bent in stages by passing it through a series of rolls. Roll material is generally
made of steel or gray iron and coated with chrome for wear resistance. This process is used to make
complex shapes based on sheet metal. 6 thick material before or after the formation process does not
change. The resulting products that are produced from this work are pipes, iron pipes etc.
Seaming

is a bending operation used to connect the ends of sheet metal to form workpieces, the joints are
formed using small rolls arranged in sequence. examples of the results of seaming work are cans, drums,
buckets etc.

Straightening

is a process that is the opposite of bending, used to straighten metal. In general, straightening is carried
out before the workpiece is bent. This process uses a roll mounted parallel to the height of the different
roll axes.

flanging

Posing flanging is the same as the seaming process, only it is shown to fold and form a larger surface.
Examples of the results of the flanging work are the CPU cover on the computer, zinc hooked etc.

Roll Bending Machine Parts

Main Components of the Machine

The components of a roll bending machine are as follows:

1. Pipe roll table

Pipe roll table serves as a support for all components

2. Mattress roll

The part of the holder (foundation) for the pipe that will go through the process of using this pipe roll
machine. amounted to 3 pieces of the same shape and size, it's just different functions. The top mattress
(compressive mat) is one piece, functioning as a pipe press. and second

the other mattress functions as a pipe holder.

3.AS swivel mat holder

This US amounted to 2 pieces. AS made from high strength steel serves as a mat holder, and also as a
seat holder.

4. AS AS the pressure mat holder AS functions as the pressure mat holder. The material used to make
this AS is US ST 60 iron. This AS does not follow the mat's rotation because it only functions as a shaft.

5. Press the regulator mat

Serves to adjust the height of the mattress to adjust the radius of the desired pipe bend. when the
handle is rotated then the top mat holder which has been attached to the screw bars will move up or
down in the direction of this thread.

6. US mattress press holder

As a place to put the mattress press. This holder serves as a place to put the bushings for the bearing.
The bearing is to support the US for the mattress

7. Playhandle

the swivel handle functions as a handle to rotate the rotary mat (seat mat).

8. Scroll in the upper Mat Regulator

This component functions as a retaining regulator screw. Made of cast iron that is printed.

9. Internal thread holder Because the internal thread used is made of cast iron, it is not possible to be
combined with welding. Then made a holder for the inner screw.

bending roll grouping machine

from the design of the roll bending machine generally divided into 3 types:

1. Asymmetric roll bending machine

This machine is the simplest type, using 3 rolls arranged asymmetrically where 2 rolls are used for
clamping and one roll for directing. the power used can be from human power, electric and hydraulic
motors. This machine is used to brake the thin plate.

2. Roll 3 plate roll machine

This roll machine is arranged like a triangle, two rolls are mounted parallel to the bottom and 1 roll is
mounted above between the 2 lower roll. This machine uses electric and hydraulic motor power. This
machine is used to roll thick plates and in some well-known brands this machine is able to form
conebending (cone), the cone bending function is not always in 3 roll machines, and to be known to
form cone bending requires a capacity of 2 times greater than forming ordinary pipe or tank.

3. Roll 4 plate roll machine

This machine is a refinement of the 3 roll machine, where 2 roll is mounted straight up and down and 2
roll again mounted to the right and left, this machine makes it easier to operate, such as facilitating the
placement of plates because it can be mounted parallel to the table or side support. the cone bending
function is also more perfect for this machine. in rolling it is known as prebending, which is where the
end of the rolled plate becomes very hard so that it stays straight (not bending well) this is due to
several factors, such as the design of the roll machine itself (especially 3 roll) and the expertise of the
operator. in a 1 roll machine it can be minimized so that the results of rolling do not leave a plate that is
still straight (which usually must be cut to throw it away), so the results are perfectly wrapped from the
end to just welding it, of course the power used to perform the prebending function ) This is bigger than
middle cranking.

 Failure in the Bending process

in the bending process there are failures in the formation such as;

1. Springback Springback occurs because all objects have a certain modulus of elasticity, changes in
metal are followed by resilient recovery in recovered loads. in formation, this recovery is known as
springback., the final curvature angle after being given the strength of pressure / formation is smaller
and the final curvilinear radius is greater than before. The resulting curvilinear becomes larger after
forming. Negative springback failure can be in the form of a return to the original shape of the object.

2. Tear Failure is caused by the lack of elasticity of the object or when the formation of a collision that is
too large so that the object formed receives more pressure which causes tearing. tear generally occurs
in workmanship that uses plates or plates.

3. Broken Object One of the failures in the bending process is broken. Causes of fractures include too
hard formed objects. Objects that are pushed or pressed in the mold do not have enough elasticity, so
the pressure applied is not forming but breaking. Another reason is the repeated bending of the object
at the same bend point.

factors that can affect the bending process

1. Plate Thickness
The bending process will result in withdrawal on the outside and shrinkage on the inside diameter of the
curvature. The thickness of the plate will affect the bending radius can be formed and the ability of the
material to be able to experience stretching without distortion.

2. Bending Method

The exact procedure or method of bending process is very influential on the quality of the product
produced.

3. Material size

Material with a large size when bent with a small radius will easily experience distortion compared to
material with a small size and a large bending radius.

4. Supporting Equipment

Equipment used includes molds, clamps and mandrels.

5. Lubrication

Lubrication is needed to reduce the effects of friction and increase the efficiency of the forming process
