LISTENING LESSON PLAN

Time: 20 minutes
Level:Upper- Intermediate
Gender:F/M
Age:15-16
Materials:Pictures/ Handouts
Interaction:Ss/Ss – T/Ss
Anticipated Problems: Time and the complexity of the listening conversation

OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the students

1) will have improved their listening skills in upper-intermediate degree.

2) will have improved their attention on the listening text.

3) will have guided the development of their understanding of the listening text.

PRE-LISTENING

Time : 5 min.
Materials : Pictures
Interaction: T/Ss-Ss/Ss
What the students do :The students share their thoughts and personal experiences related to
the topic. And they give some suggestions for the teacher’s problem.
Grouping : Whole class and pair work
Aims:

- To motivate the students to get to the topic.


- To give students a reason for listening
- To activate their background information
- To contextualize the listening text

STEPS
1)The teacher shares her personal experience.
2)The teacher shows some pictures and wants students to guess what the problem is with the
given pictures.
3)The teacher asks the students to work in pair and to give a suggestion for her problem and
the problem shown in the pictures.
4)After gathering their opinions and suggestions , the teacher moves into the first listening
section.
WHILE LISTENING

Time : 10 min. (5 min. for each session)


Materials : Handouts
Interaction: T/Ss-Ss/Ss
What the students do : The students are asked to listen to the text, to answer the given
question and to match the given pictures and opinions.
Grouping : Whole class

• First Listening

Aims:
- To get the students to understand the conversation in general.
- To get the students to have the main idea about the text.

STEPS
1) The teacher introduces the listening text.
2) The teacher gives information about the listening text and gives handouts by saying “ you
have given some suggestions for my problem and now we will listen to a conversation. Lets
see whether your suggestions are more or less the same with our given conversation and
please pay attention what the problem is and who has the problem.
3) The teacher gives them a short time to have a look at the question.
4) The students are asked to listen to the text and to answer the question in part A for the
main idea.
5) After listening the text teacher checks their answers.

• Second Listening

Aims:
- To get the Sts have more specific information about the text.
- To get them understand the text in detail.

STEPS
1) Before listening to the conversation again, the Ss are asked to have a look at the part B.
2) Ss are asked to match given pictures and opinions while listening to the conversation again.
And they are also said to listen to the conversation much more carefully.
3) After listening and matching, the teacher wants Ss turn the matchings into sentences.
4)The teacher checks their answer and corrects if there is a mistake.
POST LISTENING

Time : 5 min.
Materials : card, music
Interaction: Ss/Ss
What the students do : the students do a role-playing
Grouping : groups of five students

Aims :
- To improve their speaking skills with the help of creativity.
- To help the students integrate what they have learnt from the text into their existing
knowledge.

STEPS
1) The teacher chooses a volunteer who will be the person having the problem mentioned in
the text.
2) The teacher wants the volunteer to come to the board and to say his/her problem.
3) The teacher wants each group to find a solution and to give a suggestion for the problem of
the person on the board.
