Seminole Pavilion Rehabilitation Center Patient Relocation and COVID-19 Update

Freedom Square is deeply saddened to report that three former patients of Seminole Pavilion,
who tested positive for COVID-19, have passed away. One patient died on April 11 and two
others died today, Friday, April 17. We extend our sincere condolences to the families of these
patients and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time.
Over this past week Freedom Square began an orderly and voluntary transfer of Seminole
Pavilion Rehabilitation patients who were asymptomatic but potentially exposed, symptomatic,
or who had confirmed cases of COVID-19 to three local hospitals for treatment and monitoring.
We did so in conjunction with our healthcare and hospital partners the Florida Department of
Health in Pinellas County, Pinellas County Emergency Medical Services, HCA Healthcare,
Bayfront Health St. Petersburg and BayCare Health System.
On the advice of our partners, and out of an abundance of caution, at noon on Friday, April 17,
Freedom Square made the decision to transfer all remaining patients from Seminole Pavilion to
local hospitals. The families of all impacted residents have been contacted to let them know of
the change in their loved one’s situation.
From April 14 to today, here is an update on the COVID-19 facts available:

• A total of 95 Seminole Pavilion patients have been transferred out of the center.
• All 95 patients were tested for COVID-19.
• The results showed 53 patients tested negative, 36 patients tested positive, 6 test
results are still pending.
• The residents evacuated on Friday who tested positive for COVID-19 or were showing
symptoms were transported to local hospitals.
• Remaining patients who tested negative were moved to a non-COVID floor at Bayfront
Health St. Petersburg.
• The residents who were receiving end of life hospice care were transported to another
hospice facility.
Currently, the only positive resident cases in the Freedom Square campus have been in
Seminole Pavilion.
After all Seminole Pavilion residents have been transferred, Freedom Square will continue and
expand our infection control protocols and procedures within Seminole Pavilion, in partnership
with federal, state and local agencies to eliminate the possibility of further spread of the virus.
Freedom Square is thankful to our partners for working together with us as we work diligently
to protect the health and safety of our residents and employees.
