Coronavirus

INTRODUCTION:

A few decades back people were most afraid of a nuclear war. But at present, if anything

kills millions of people, they would not be killed by a nuclear war. It would be a virus killing

millions of people. The spread of such a deadly virus will be a global failure.

COVID-19 is a new type of virus that spreads from the Wuhan, the city of China. It can

spread from person to person. Mostly, the cases outside China have been spread from the

travelers of China. Mostly, the deaths reported of older persons because of a weak immune

system. As far as the range of illness is concerned, it can be varied from normal conditions to a

very critical situation.

TED TALK OF BILL GATES IN 2015:

Bill Gates, in his TED talk in 2015 indicates that we will face an epidemic in the future.

And, he was true. In his TED talk, he explains these things.

From the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, more than ten thousand people died. It was a tragedy.

Bill Gates took regular updates relating to the new polio cases. At the centers for disease control

and preventions in Atlanta, Bill Gates discuss it with Tom Friedan and his team. In the end, they

were in very painful results. He said we will face worse disease than this in the future. The world

was not ready for it. By building an active and effective global response and warning system, we

can prevent the epidemics. We need to plan how we will tackle the situation.

THE 1918 PANDEMIC V/S CORONAVIRUS:

About one hundred years ago, a virus spread from unknown animals and spread throughout

the world “called Spanish flu”. It was first reported in May 1918, then it starts spreading. And, in

1919 spring, one-third of the world’s population gets infected. About fifty million peoples died
from this vulnerable disease. Now, we can see that after three months of the start of this

pandemic COVID 19, we can see the danger to the future if we are unable to control it.

Now, we are comparing both diseases. After 102 years, everything is changed but we can

compare the effects of these pandemics. The world’s population has been increased from 1.5

billion to 7 billion from 1918 to 2019. We can see that COVID-19 infects thousands of peoples

as Spanish flu infects. The symptoms of both pandemics are approximately the same. Both can

spread from person to person. But one thing is different from COVID 19 effects mostly old age

peoples, but Spanish flu effects mostly peoples whose age is between 20 and 40. At the time of

Spanish Flu, there was no vaccine that provides energy to the immune system but for the

coronavirus, there are many vaccines that can provide immunity against influenza.

EBOLA WARNED THE UNITED STATES:

Ebola virus, that emerges in 2013-2015. This virus threats the United States to prepare for

future diseases. This virus also tests the ability and advancement of the world that how can we

handle the situation if another virus emerges in the future. The people who were studied knew

that we were not prepared for it. National Security Council studied the response from

international failures and success as well as domestic. White House released an analysis report of

73 pages based on 21 recommendations and findings. Agencies and departments of the United

States contributed to it.

Ebola virus killed 11,000 people in the world and only 2 peoples in the United States. But

it threats the world for the painful future. The end of Ebola was considered when no case comes

after forty days passed to the last case and now the coronavirus case comes after 15 days. Now,

the coronavirus has become a major problem for the development of the world.
But the government did not implement these three steps of the strategy. The new

government provided fund to the Global Health Security Agenda when the amount given by

Ebola Response Supplemental ended. But the total was not sufficient enough. In the USA, the 35

hospitals were not expanded that was 1st prong of the strategy. The size of health stockpiles and

equipment’s was not improved to fight against influenza or any respiratory virus. National

Security advisor ended the job period of new directorate.

HOW CAN WE FACE THE PANDEMIC?

COVID 19 is spreading from a person to person. It jammed the whole globe progress.

Everything is affected by this novel coronavirus. But there are many ways we can stop spreading

this virus. The ways the United States and the whole world can adopt are as follows.

One way is to control the spread of the virus. It can end the virus. For this purpose, we

need close coordination between people, the government and the medical sector. We control the

SARS epidemic by this method. We can see the results of containment efforts in CHINA. Now,

normal life starts in CHINA.

Another way is warm weather. As the temperature starts increasing, the effect of COVID

19 decreases and finally the end of the virus. But, it is workable in the areas of warm weather.

For countries like America, it is not helpful.

Another way is a vaccine or anti-viral treatment. But there is again a problem that it

requires a time of at least 15 months. We are not defenseless.

CONCLUSION:

To reduce the effects of coronavirus, we have to face the situation. The best way is good

collaboration between the public and the medical sector. We just have to continue our struggle.

In the end, we will be able to reduce the effect of the coronavirus and can handle the situation.
