Designing Faceplates
You will be presented with the main faceplate design tool screen (Figure 3), consisting of a faceplate mock-
up image (right), and a series of design control tabs (on the left). You will also see options to reset the tool
(Start Over) and create a final image output (Create JPG).
Figure 3: The main faceplate design screen, showing mock-up and design control tabs.
Design Controls
Design control tabs include Deskphone Themes, Colors and Logos. Click on any tab to bring it to the
forefront for use.
Deskphone Themes
Think of Deskphone Themes as “templates”. These templates define the general design of the faceplate itself
– providing simple options such as a faceplate with a single background color as well as options supporting
two colors (primary and secondary).
4) Scroll through the available themes (Figure 4) by clicking on the left and right arrows within the
Themes window.
• Notice as you scroll through themes, the deskphone image on the left changes accordingly.
• Once you’ve selected your theme, you can begin to change colors and add logos.
Design Tip
Keep the designs simple. For most efforts, a design with a single base color faceplate is more than
satisfactory. Multiple color themes will add to complexity during the manufacturing process – as well as
the cost.
Design Tip
You can use a single image to create a background for the entire deskphone, simply by importing the
graphic, inserting it on to the phone mock-up, scaling it upwards, and using the color matching capability
to create a background that matches the background color of the logo. In this case, choose the single-
color template as a starting point.
Figure 6: The Colors tab, showing options for a single color theme (left) or two-color theme (right).
Note that the Avaya Logo Color has also been changed in the two-color option.
Design Tip
Leverage the standard Avaya colors whenever possible to reduce cost. In addition to the default
“Charcoal Grey” color, there are five alternate Featured Colors available which can be used in your
designs. Leveraging these colors will keep the cost of the faceplates down and will shorten
manufacturing time.
Custom base faceplate and bezel colors selected from the palette section above may require custom
paints, which will add lead time and cost.
o In the circular Avaya button there is a 3-dimensional highlighting effect within the image. The
N
Avaya button as well as the Avaya graphic both shows a shadow effect. Special effects such
as these cannot be created on Avaya faceplates. Instead, you should try to incorporate one
dimension or “flat” versions of the same file.
Important Note!
To manufacture the faceplate, the logo files must be in: .ai; .eps; or .ps format to screen the logo onto
the faceplate. This means you will need your logo in at least two different formats – one for the tool,
and one for production. The faceplate fulfillment partner will scale logo images as per the design;
however, if you are scaling images upwards to a larger size, please ensure that the graphic submitted
has a high enough resolutionand/or original size to ensure smooth scaling.
Figure 7: The Logos tab, showing two default logo images. These may be deleted and replaced with
your own logos or graphics.
13) Click the UPLOAD NEW button to add a logo or graphic to the list of available choices.
o Use the dialog box to browse your files and select the appropriate logo file.
14) Click the logo you wish to use (a red box will appear around it).
15) Click ADD LOGO to place the image on to the mock-up faceplate.
16) Click-and-drag the logo to reposition it on the mock-up faceplate.
Note: As you move the logo over the dial pad or other fixed buttons, the tool automatically hides
portions of the logo blocked out by the phone buttons. If you move the logo so that a portion of the
image extends beyond the boundaries of the faceplate, it will be similarly truncated.
Once a logo has been selected and inserted, the Logos tab will display additional controls for color
matching, rotating and resizing the graphic (Figure 8). Logo’s that are used in a design will show a blue
checkmark (), and if selected in the Logos tab, the ADD LOGO button will change to REMOVE LOGO.
Figure 8: Additional controls for color matching the base faceplate color to a color element of the logo,
modifying a selected logo’s rotation, or changing a logo’s size. Note the change to the REMOVE LOGO
button.
17) To re-size or rotate the logo, use the circular Rotate button. This can be used to display an image
vertically.
18) To scale (up or down), use the two Sizing buttons (arrows facing inwards, arrows facing outwards).
After rotating or resizing, you may have to move the image on the mock-up faceplate using click-and-drag to
reposition it appropriately.
Design Tip:
It is possible to upload up to four different logos into the tool at one time to accommodate situations
where you are designing faceplates with multiple logos, or for multiple users, organizations or customers.
For example, Colleges and Universities which may have one logo for the institution itself, and then a
second one for the school team mascot to be included in the same design. In contrast, corporate
customers may want one design for end-user offices and a second for conference rooms or briefing
rooms with slightly different graphics.
Also, if you have different versions of the same logo (e.g. corporate logos that normally have multiple
colors, may also have an approved one color version) you can load multiple versions into the tool, and
easily swap them in and out of your design in order to determine which combination of colors offers the
best solution.
Figure 9: To complete and save your design, click the CREATE JPG button.
24) A dialog box will open – allowing you to select a folder, create a filename and save the file.
Once saved in .jpg format, you can share your design with peers via email, insert it in to PowerPoint
presentations, include your design within proposals, etc.
Important Note!
1. One box of faceplates contains 25 Faceplates.
2. A minimum of 4 boxes is required for production orders.
Important Note!
You should be aware that differences in the types of surfaces the design is printed on will cause colors
to vary slightly, even for the same PMS values. Color on a paper printout may therefore differ slightly
from the color as reproduced on the actual (more textured) surface of a faceplate. For this reason, it is
suggested that a pre-production faceplate be produced even if there are no custom logos used.
Important Note!
In order to complete the Custom Faceplate order process, the following design info will be required:
