Introduction

1.3. Target Group and Safety Instructions

The document you are reading right now is addressed to users, who are in charge of the following
engineering tasks:
• Conceptual activities, as for example design and configuration
• Creation of the assembly technical documentation using the designated engineering tools
• System parameterization and system diagnostic, using the designated engineering tools
• Technical system maintenance

Above applies, as far as these tasks do not involve manipulations of the hardware.

Manipulating the hardware itself, as for example "unplugging" and "plugging" printed circuit boards
and modules, or working on terminals and/or connectors – for instance when applying changes to the
wiring – are – also if they are an issue in the context of configuration, parameterization and diagnostic –
not subject of this document.

For activities, which comprise hardware manipulations, it is essential to pay attention to

the appropriate safety instructions and to strictly adhere to the appropriate safety
regulations.

Instructions and regulations are also stated in installation manuals or manuals which
deal with hardware installation and other hardware manipulations.

System Element Manual CP-6003/CPC65 DC6-004-1.02 1-3

Introduction

1.5. Architecture

A TM 1703 ACP system consists of a master control element, up to maximum 4 bus interface modules
(electrical and/or optical) and uo to 16 peripheral elements.

A peripheral element consists of a power supply module, a peripheral control module and up to
8 I/O modules. The modules are mounted on a TS35 rail (DIN rail).

Optional the master control element can be configured with up to 2 serial interface modules (SIM) for
the communication with other automation units or control systems.

1.5.1. Mechanics

Compact metal housing for DIN rail mounting.

Introduction

1.5.2. Ax 1703 Peripheral Bus

The master control element operates as bus master one electrical Ax 1703 peripheral bus which can be
operated with either 16Mbps or 4Mbps. This bus is available on different connectors:

Type Interface Number Baud Rate Number of Peripheral Elements

CP-6003-A USB / series A, 4-pin 2 up to 2
RJ45 8-pin 1 16Mbps up to 16
or
D-SUB 9-pin 1 4Mbps up to 16
CP-6003 D-SUB 9-pin 1 up to 16

USB- and patch cables, by means of those the connection between master control element and bus
interface is set up, may be maximum 3m long each.

The address of the peripheral elements on the Ax 1703 peripheral bus is determined in
SAT TOOLBOX II, when defining the Ax 1703 peripheral bus configuration. The same address will be
set on the peripheral elements.

• Functions for Telecontrol (Communication)

─ communication via installable protocol elements to any superior or subordinate automation unit
─ automatic or selective data flow routing
─ priority based data transmission (priority control)
─ own circular buffer and process image for each connected station (data keeping)
─ redundant communication routes
− communication with redundant remote stations
− redundant communication with a remote station (load share operation)
─ special application specific functions for dial-up traffic
− test if stations are reachable
− an application program may evaluate telephone charges
− parameter setup allows the telephone line to be used efficiently with respect to connection
charges (e.g. command output possible only if a connection exists)

• Functions for Telecontrol (Process Peripherals)

─ transmission of spontaneous information objects from and to peripheral elements, via the serial
Ax 1703 peripheral bus

System Element Manual CP-6003/CPC65 DC6-004-1.02 3-1

− approx. 50.000 variables and signals, 2.000 of them retained
− cycle of 10 ms or a multiple thereof
− online test
− loadable without service interruption
─ transmission of periodic process information between the open-/closed-loop control function
and the peripheral elements, via the serial Ax 1703 peripheral bus

The above mentioned functions and features are described in detail in the document
ACP 1703 Common Functions System and Basic System Elements.

3.2. Engineering

For diagnosis, testing, parameter setting or documentation, the system element is supported by the

Flash Card Handling

A. Flash Card Handling

This is an excerpt of the manual TM 1703 ACP Installation, chapter 7, section

"Flash Card".

TM 1703 ACP uses a flash card for the storage of parameters, user programs and firmware codes for
basic system elements and supplementary system elements. This is located in the housing of the
master control element.

Pic. A-1 Position of the flash card

Attention

The master control elements are supplied without flash card.

Flash Card Handling

A.1. Inserting Flash Card

Press through the recess in the housing on the locking panel situated below until the guide for the
flash card is visible . Hold the locking panel in this position and guide the flash card in until it
engages. Then the locking panel can be released again and the flash card is secured.

Press through the recess in the housing on the locking panel situated below until the flash card is
visible. Hold the locking panel in this position and push the flash card slightly inwards . As a result it is
disengaged and springs out of the guide a few millimeters. The flash card can now be removed and
the locking panel released again.
