PREFACE

First at all, give thanks for God’s love and grace for us. Thanks to God for helping as and give as
chance to finish this peapers with title " Adjective" timely. And I would like to say thank you to Mr. Andi
Syaputra M.Pd as the lecturer that always teaches us and give much knowledge about how to practice
English well.

This peapers is the one of English task that composed of Practical English Usage English As Second
Language I realized this assighment is not perfect. But I hope it can be useful for us. Critics and
suggestion is needed here to make this peapers be better.

Hopefully we as a student in “STAIN Teungku Dirundeng "can work more professional by using

Background of The Problems

The purpose of teaching English language at university is to develop the university students’ language
skills. There are four major skills that should be mastered by students in learning English, namely
listening, speaking, reading, and writing. One of the skills that cannot be neglected is reading skill
because the success of their study depends on the greater part of their ability to read. Therefore,
reading is essential not only to get the information but also to comprehend the eight parts of speach.
There are noun,pronoun,verb,adjective,adverb,prposition,conjuntion,interjection.

writer wish respect to one parts of speach in this peapers there is" Adjective" or indonesian language
"kata sifat" becouse adjective is importent speach at a sentence.

When an adjective is describing a noun, we say it is "modifying" it. Adjectives can:

When attributes are equal

Comparing equal attributes is simple. To compare the attributes of two things that are equal, we use the
pattern:

as + adjective describing the attribute + as

Tom is as tall as his brother.

I am as hungry as you are.

Sally is as nice as Jane.

When attributes are not equal

When the two attributes are not equal, there are three constructions with equivalent meanings.

Either use the pattern:

not as + adjective describing the attribute + as

Or use the pattern:

less + adjective describing the attribute + than : This construction is more frequent with some adjectives
than with others.

Or use the pattern:

comparative adjective + than : This construction may require changing the order of the phrase or using
the opposing adjective.

Examples

Mont Blanc is not as high as Mount Everest.

Mont Blanc is less high than Mount Everest.

Mont Blanc is lower than Mount Everest.

Mount Everest is higher than Mont Blanc.

Norway is not as sunny as Thailand.

Norway is less sunny than Thailand.

Thailand is sunnier than Norway.

Norway is cloudier than Thailand.

Order of Adjective.

When a number of adjectives are used together, the order depends on the function of the
adjective. The usual order is:

Quantity, Value/opinion, Size, Temperature, Age, Shape, Colour, Origin, Material
