The Christmas Story
Part 2
It is so easy to get distracted by all of the activities surrounding
Christmas: preparing for time off work, traveling to see family, digging
out family recipes and of course shopping. There is nothing wrong with
all of that, although some people spend money they don’t have. The
problem is that all these things can quickly distort or completely blot out
the actual spiritual conflict which occurred around the birth of Christ. We
must strip away the traditions and added definitions given to us by culture
and assumption, and examine the Word of God afresh to find out that the
birth of Christ was a strategic and emphatic move from God against the
darkness that required a powerful prophetic people to live upon the earth.

coming to the house, they saw the

him. Then they opened their
treasures and presented him with

in a dream not to go back to Herod,
they returned to their country by
another route. 13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord
appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said, "take the child
and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for
Herod is going to search for the child to kill him." 14 So he got up,
took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, 15
where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what
the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my
son." (NIV)
In the previous article in this series we saw how the darkness responded:
disinformation, plots involving genocidal rage, a corrupt and undiscerning
church – all of this was an attempt to keep mankind locked down into
mortality and death. These verses that are referred to especially at
Christmas time actually describe a violent clash of kingdoms: Light vs.
darkness, both of which used intelligence to outmaneuver the other.

Being prophetic is not just having a gift that operates in the Church, it is
being connected to God in order to be piloted from the next realm so that
we can live correctly here upon the earth. Nothing that darkness

Church to embrace a Prophetic Dimension that has the capacity to govern and shape every dimension of life.
Events cannot happen within the financial systems of the earth, in major elections or within global trends without
our discernment and knowledge of how it fits into God’s one purpose for the whole earth. We must be Prophetic
so we can live and act wisely upon the earth!

We see two other things in these passages:

1.The mastery of God’s Kingdom over human events and spiritual darkness, and His desire to empower us with
prophetic insight. The amazing thing about this clash of Kingdoms is that God gave advance notice through
multiple prophetic words spoken hundreds of years before, all mentioned in Matthew 2. These include: a) where
the Christ would be born, v 4; b) that the Son would be called out of Egypt, v 15; c) that genocide would occur, v
17; d) that He would be called a Nazarene, i.e. settle in the Northern province, v 23.

Even with this forewarning, darkness could do nothing to stop the purposes of God from being birthed into the
earth. All God needed was a few humble and obedient humans, like Mary and her husband Joseph, and they took
on the entire Satanic structure which used Herod and his soldiers who acted in futility against the Lord. God
declared it in advance and even then it could not be stopped – He is 10 jumps ahead of the police!

Through the prophetic, God empowers us with His insight and ability, so the prophetic is an exercise in power
sharing. Therefore we can say that every time God talks we must become more mature, more Christ-like, and
more able to rule in the midst of darkness while chaos, turbulence and crisis is occurring all around us.

2. The use of power must always be for the purpose of human development. Political power must never be used
for the sake of perpetuating the power structure itself. The prophetic word given by Micah and quoted in Matthew
2:6 indicates that out of Bethlehem would come a ruler (hegemon) who will shepherd (poimen) My people. The
Greek word hegemon is where we get the English word hegemony, which means leadership or predominant
influence. In the Greek it is defined as a leader of any kind, a guide, ruler, prefect, president, chief, general or
commander.

This verse is in total contrast to the Roman and Herodic political leadership which was so abusive in their use of
power. Rome colonized and imposed imperial policy upon far flung subjects and extracted tribute to build up their
imperial center. Herod was murderous and so acutely aware of any threat to
his power that he ruthlessly committed mass genocide. But the Ruler of the
whole earth is a shepherd, which is the Greek word poimen, which means
to tend to a sheep, or to nurture and feed the flock.

In other words the role of leaders is to care for the people and to lead them
into correctness, so the use of power must always be for the purpose of 2778 Cumberland Blvd
