1) Describe a situation where you achieved something
significant after overcoming obstacles. My life has been a mixture of successes and setbacks, but my most significant achievement came about during my stint as the convenor of Confluence 2017 (the annual cultural festival of NIT-KKR). I was responsible for leading 100+ student coordinators and multiple committees. We were able to bring various improvements to the fest, the foremost being an increase in external participation by 60% due to our persistent efforts in reaching out to other colleges and instituting campus ambassador programmes there. Most importantly, this stint brought about a paradigm shift in my personality, leading me to become more confident, decisive and creative in identifying and solving problems and working in teams to great effect.
2) Describe a situation where you had to persuade others to
achieve a goal after overcoming resistance. How did you go about doing it? In the workplace, I was part of the team, which comprised only freshers and one of our initial projects was process-automation of data extraction for the client. In one of the modules, we were working with new software, and our team ended up making a minor error that translated into a whole day’s extra work for the data extraction team. My colleagues wanted to mask the error and pass it on as a technical glitch of the software as it was a novel platform. But I did not believe in it and hence reported it to my manager asking for coordination with the data extraction team. Even though my team members thought it was a bad idea, the result panned out well because our manager was impressed with the clarity we had while delivering our project. Also, the trust we built up with our manager and the data extraction team and the coordination we developed among ourselves was a key factor for us in achieving our goal.
3) Please elaborate on points that strengthens your case for
the domain you have chosen. Firstly, I am a responsible person who likes to take charge of things and tackle problems to achieve tangible results. I but my best efforts forward to make sure I can do justice to any responsibilities I am assigned. Secondly, I am an optimistic and jovial person who gets well with others and gets accustomed to different environments quickly. This helps me to work in new unfamiliar settings to bring out results rapidly. Thirdly, I am a hardworking determined individual who works towards his goals diligently with a smile. All these qualities make me a good fit for working in the consulting domain.
4) Successful leaders have a clear sense of purpose. What is
your Statement of Purpose? As an individual, I like challenges, taking up different problems, and finding solutions for them. I have been working as a Senior Business Analyst for insurance clients and have been helping them to revamp, improve and streamline their work processes to create a positive business impact. During my graduation I was the Convenor of Confluence’2017, Annual Cultural fest NIT, Kurukshetra. I led a team of 100+ student coordinators to organize the fest and was the head of Event and Stage Management; Hospitality; External Participation and Publicity committees. This event was a success and was conducted in a smooth sailing manner due to my effective planning and execution along with the dedication shown by an immensely spirited team. Along with this, by compartmentalizing my time appropriately, I have also been successful in ensuring my academic prowess. My experience as a business analyst and the enriching time, I have spent in my College has honed my analytical and interpersonal skills. I believe that working with Boston Consulting Group will provide me the perfect platform to tackle different business problems, to find creative and efficient solutions for them, all the while adding value to the overall business process.
5) Please elaborate on an instance where you pursued an idea
to conclusion. As a newly inducted member of the Music and Dramatics club NIT Kurukshetra, I was assigned the task of organizing a cultural festival for the incoming batch. We were facing an issue of low participation in duet events such as duet dance and duet singing. On further analysis, I narrowed down the reason to the incoming batch did not interact among themselves to identify similar skill people as they had just been inducted. So we ideated we should make teams of the students who audition for the solo counterparts of the singing and dance events and assign them mentors from senior batches to increasing participation. I worked diligently with the mentors, team members, and the participants to conduct the event in a smooth and sailing manner with a 25% increase in participation.
