IT Support Technician
Competition #: AH-2018-154

Acden Holdings is currently accepting applications for one (1) IT Support Technician to support its
corporate Information Technology (IT) department. The position will be primarily based out of the
Acden Head Office, located at 220 Taiganova Crescent, Fort McMurray, Alberta. This position will consist
of a shift of Tuesday to Saturday 8:00am and 5:30pm.
Please Note: hours, schedules and locations may change from time to time due to operational, client
and training requirements.

The IT Support Technician works with system users to ensure technology requirements are met and that
the policies, processes and strategies of the Acden IT Department are followed and adhered to. The IT
Support Technician position includes advanced network and systems support roles in addition to
standard IT desktop support role.

This is a local position to the Fort McMurray, Alberta region. The successful candidate must have their
own accommodations and transportation within the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Day to day operational support of computers and network components including hardware,
software and troubleshooting.
• Installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of systems hardware, software and
related infrastructure.
• Analyze hardware and software malfunctions in order to diagnose root cause of an issue.
• Plan and perform documentation, inventory assessment, network assessment, and other
procedures related to IT.
• Perform testing and regular servicing of equipment hardware and software.
• Ensure IT interactions are followed through to resolution, maintain appropriate records and
documentation.
• Assist in developing and documenting improvements to current processes.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Administration:
• Provide periodic task status updates to the IT team.
• Enter all issues/tasks assigned into the Issue Tracking System and keep status up to date.
• Practice effective communication to user community.
• Share knowledge of areas of expertise with other members of the team.
• Ensure all solutions are documented based on Acden IT Standards.
• Refer complex issues to IT Manager or other team members, as required.

Qualifications:
• Possess and/or working towards several of the following accreditations:
o Post-Secondary education (Degree or Diploma) related to Computer
Technology/Computer Sciences from an accredited educational facility.
 CompTIA – A+, Network+, Security+, Server+, Storage+
 Cisco - CCNA, CCNP, CCENT, CCIE
 ITIL - Foundation, Practitioner, Intermediate, Master
 Microsoft - MTA, MOS, MCSA, MCSE
 VMWare – VCA, VCP. HyperV and AWS equivalents. HPE and Oracle
equivalents.
 (ISC)2 – SSCP, CAP, CISSP
 ISACA – CSX, CISA, CISM, CRISC
 Brocade – BCP in: Ethernet, SAN, Storage (IP or Mainframe)
 Apple – ACSP, ACTC, ACPT
 Other equivalent IT certifications and accreditations.
• 2 years experience in both a Hardware and Software support environment or a break/fix
environment
• Extensive hardware and software diagnostics and troubleshooting experience.
• Extensive mobility device setup and management experience.
• Strong networking knowledge and experience:
o Virtual Private Networks (VPN),
o Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN),
o Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP),
o Wireless Networks,
o Network printing and devices,
o Domain Networking and
o Domain Controllers.
• Strong understanding of network wiring and TCP/IP with the ability to use such
understanding to build and maintain a functional network.
• Fluency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Office 365 support.
• Excellent skills in teamwork, coordination, and communication.
• Experience using virtualization technologies will be considered a strong asset.
• Microsoft Server administration and maintenance experience will be considered a strong
asset.
• SQL Server administration and maintenance experience will be considered a strong asset.
• Experience with structured cabling installation will be considered a strong asset.
• Ability and willingness to pursue education and training in all areas of Information
Technology.
• Ability to operate both independently and as a part of small dynamic service team.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work efficiently on simultaneous assignments under tight deadlines.
• Self-starter, high level of motivation, client empathy and ethics.
• Strong analytical and reasoning abilities.
• Ability to collect and analyze data, draw conclusions, and make actionable recommendations.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
• Drug, Alcohol, and Audiometric pre-employment tests are required.
• Valid Class 5 Operator’s Licence with a clean abstract.
o You must submit at the time of application, a 5-year Driver’s Abstract that is not more
than 30 days old. Failure to do so may result in the rejection of your application. The
Driver’s Abstract must be for a 5-year period and have been obtained within the last
30 days.Ability to provide proof of credentials prior to the interview stage.
• Eligible to work on all oil sands sites within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
