FlyDubai routes have been put into service from terminal 3 into the Dubai International Airport
to improve the links between the two companies and this will help passengers in transit to benefit
from a smoother and faster connection. With the adoption of Emirates Skywards loyalty
program, existing FlyDubai customers can earn and redeem miles in a simple way and receive

readjustment of schedules on common destinations and this collaboration will help to strengthen

Moreover, this move has enabled customers booked to travel to many destinations to check-in at
the Emirates Business Class and Economy Class desks in the departures area of Terminal 3.
Business Class passengers are also able to use fast track on the ground and enjoy other Business

Due to the low price of crude clipped growth in oil-based Persian Gulf economies, terrorist
attacks have affected the demand for travel and Emirates suffered a 70% drop in the profit in the
year ended March 31 2018. That’s why in order to cover the losses, Emirates decided to form a
partnership with low cost sister carrier FlyDubai aimed at allowing the companies to feed
passengers onto each other’s flights. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief
executive officer of Emirates Group and chairman of FlyDubai stated “this partnership unites

This partnership is working to optimize the networks and schedules of both airlines in order to
open up new city pair connections offering consumers greater choice. This will help both airlines
feed more traffic into each other’s complementary networks and by 2020, the combined network
of Emirates and FlyDubai is expected to reach 240 destination with a combined fleet of 380

Both airlines are working together on a number of initiatives spanning commercial, network
planning, airport operations, customer journey and frequent flyer programmer’s alignment.

According to Le Matin, the partnership with the first improved code sharing arrangements
scheduled for the last quarter of the year. Further details will be communicated as they become
available and entirely owned by the Dubai Investment Company, Emirates and FlyDubai are

With the introduction of a new home check-in service which allows customers to check in for
their flights from anywhere in Dubai from Emirates airlines and this has been expanded to
FlyDubai customers as well where this service costs Dh 350 per trip for up to 7 pieces of luggage
and additional bags cost Dh35 each and both airline’s customers can benefit from it at any time.

Independent aviation consultant john Strickland Told Reuters that “the two airlines can achieve
will be to develop network complementarily, reducing some current duplication and providing
new customer itineraries.” As there will be greater flexibility on aircraft size according to
demand on a given route and both airlines are currently the biggest operators out of Dubai
International and can harness immense cost savings by working together. ("Emirates, flydubai to

This partnership consists of several things as there will be an expansive codeshare agreement,
schedule aligment and network optimization as the two airlines will further develop their hub in
terms of systems and operations to ensure a seamless travel experience through the modern

Finally, as per the secondary data, we can conclude that both groups are speaking of an
innovation partnership going beyond simple codesharing agreements that will allow FlyDubai’s
customers to access Emirates’ global network and those pf FlyDubai to benefit from the regional
FlyDuabi network. The two airlines will also develop their hub at Dubai International Airport
aligning their systems and operations to ensure an uninterrupted travel experience.
