There are seven main challenges faced by an Administrative Office Manager, but
here I want to explain three of them namely change agent, productivity and culturally
diverse workforce.

Change agent within the organization is associated with the implementation of a


new procedure in the organization with the aim of improving work efficiency compared
to the previous procedure. The administrative office manager have to ensures that there
are goals, targets and due date for the project. The importance of change agent in
managing the office is able to create new requirement for leadership success at the
same time make positive change in organization. There are two scenario the needs of
change agent in organization based on my statement, for example companies are
losing,so a change needs to be made to boost sales. The second condition that forces
the organization to change whether it likes or not. For example, heart patients advised
by a physician to quit smoking to ensure that his or her illness is not feasible.

Productivity refer to optimally measuring the effectiveness of resource utilization


within organization such as systems,employees,management and others and
converting them to more useful outputs such as contributing to lower costs in doing
business and improving competitiveness. Workers productivity assessment systems
should be clear ,consistent and conducted on a regular basis by administrative
manager. Performance achieved is communicated to employees by management from
time to time. In this way,employees know they are always be monitored so that they will
trying to perform well. The importance of productivity is helps organization to identify the
shortcomings and weaknesses of the organization and what needs to be improved and
upgraded. Through productivity, organization will be more competitive and able to
achieve the vision and mission of company. From my observation, the most popular
example to increase productivity among employees are bonuses and salary increament.
This will ensure better product and service revenue. In addition, administrative manager
can also give flexibility to make employees happy at work.

It becomes a heavy duty to the administrative manager to challenge himself or


herself in understanding the culturally diverse workforce that exists in the organization.
A good manager will understands of the background of his employees so as to avoid
problems in terms of cultural practices of the nation held by his staff to ensure that each
employees has an understanding of each other. So it is natural that each of employees
and managers understand the culture and background of their respective races to avoid
any stereotypes.Hence, the administrative manager also does not need to be hit by the
language variation in organization. On the contrary, managers need to feel lucky
because in a multi-racial and multi-lingual Malaysian context it is an advantage in
extending the empire of the organization to various state and countries. This situation
will make the company’s organization more secure and orderly with the mutual
understanding that will enhance performance of the organization. As example,
Petronas is a multinational-owned local company having a number of different
backgrounds and culture but this company is able to survive until this day as each of its
employees and managers understands and respect each other and also had strong
principles and values emphasized by Petronas itself is professionalism, proactivity,
trust, and loyalty of corporations. This understanding clearly shows that each of these
different culture is able to reach agreement on work.

From my opinion, other challenge that I think administrative managers are likely
to confront in the present or in the future is weak code of work ethics. This is because
there are still some employees who have weak work ethics and do not comply with
established work ethics. Among the negative attitudes are late come work, often take
sick leave, tapping cards for friends,out-time drinking, doing business in the office and
playing ‘whats app’ at work time and sexual harassment. So that, the administrative
manager are responsible for monitoring the employees discipline from time to time.
Manager should take action on the employees who has a attitude problem in order to
improve the performance and maintaining quality of work. As we know, discipline is the
key to the success of an organization. From my experience at work, my friend, Natasya
(not her real name) is a secretary to a senior manager of a company being harassed by
a male colleague. According to her, her colleagues always come suddenly from behind,
wiping her shoulders, holding hands and trying to kiss her. She added that her
colleague always sent a short message (SMS) about sexual intercourse and invited her
out to eat. Natasya also tried to get help from her superiors, but her complaint was
ignored. Based on this case, it shows that the workplace environment is increasingly
worrying. Therefore, managers need to play an important role in ensuring that such
things do not happen.
