Monitoring External Alarms
1 Scope
The scope of this document is to describe how to connect the PSS 5000 to external alarms in order to
make them available via the Doms Host Protocol and Doms POS Protocol.

3.1 Description
External alarms can be monitored by the PSS when using a DSB451 Digital I/O module to connect to
the alarm output on the device that needs to be monitored.
When the DSB451 connector is configured as an input, the PSS will read “HIGH” on a DSB451 input
(DIO PIN or short Diop) when nothing is connected to the two PINs. When the PINs are short-circuited
the PSS will read “LOW”.
The configuration of the DIO (DiopActiveLevel) in the PSS defines whether the alarm is active at
“HIGH” or “LOW” on the input.
If “ACTIVE_LOW” is selected during installation, no alarm is seen even when the exter-
nal device is disconnected.
It is also possible to configure how long the input should be at the active level (DiopActiveOnDelay) be-
fore it is considered an alarm; and similarly for when alarms are gone (DiopActiveOffDelay). These de-
lays are used to avoid bouncing contacts or noise to create false alarms.

3.2.1 Configuration
To configure a DIO input for monitoring an external alarm, the configuration must include:
3.2.2 Status
To keep connected clients up-to-date, the PSS will send unsolicited DiopStatus messages whenever a
change occurs. See Doms POS Protocol [1] for details.
Each state change in the PSS alarm inputs is also available via the event log in Doms Host Protocol (see
[2] for details); these alarms are managed by Site Info. For details, please contact Doms Sales (e.g.
sales@doms.dk).
