Lesson Planning

Waynesburg University

Writing the lesson plan:

Translating thoughts into a plan of action
_____________________________________________
Pennsylvania Academic Standard(s) addressed during this lesson:
(Provide Standard number and statement)

1.5.5 B Develop content appropriate for the topic.

1.8.5 B. Conduct inquiry and research on self-selected or assigned topics using a variety of teacher-guided media sources and strategies

4.2.5 A Explain the water cycle

Lesson Objective(s)
(Stated in observable and measurable terms)

The students will be able to take information learned about the water cycle and create a presentation of the information for their peers. They
will use a variety of effects and transitions in their slide show. The students will create the presentation using a program called Prezi to
display their information for their peers.

Assessment Plan
(What will be done to determine if lesson objectives have been met?)

The teacher will determine if the objectives are met by using a teacher-made rubric. The students will also complete a feedback form on
their peers. Questions may include, but not limited to:
What was meaningful from this presentation?
What would you like to know more about?
Was the information clear and easy to understand?
If you could offer one piece of advice, what would it be?

Materials:
Teacher-made rubric for each student
Computer (1 per student)
Feedback form
Access to Prezi
List of sites to research information
Tutorial of Prezi

Inclusion Techniques for Students with Special Needs:

Students with special needs will only need to create a 2-3 minute presentation. The pictures will also be stored on a USB drive for easy
access. Students will also have the teacher as a guide.

Enrichment Techniques:

Students may add additional slides and graphics to their presentation. They may use effects and transitions not shown in the teacher model.

Lesson Differentiation (What modifications/accommodations will be made to ensure that ALL students have access to and are able
to participate in the lesson):
All students will have access to the tutorial of Prezi for guidance. Teacher will provide all students with proficient presentations to model the
expectations. The teacher will be there for assistance as well as an assistant working with any student that requires that service.
Lesson Presentation
Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set:
The teacher will give each student a piece of paper. The teacher will then explain to the students that they will be seeing a short slide show
presentation. Each student will then write down 3 things they like the most about the presentation, and 1 thing they would change. Once the
slide show is finished, the students will hand in their responses and the teacher will randomly read the students’ responses. Discuss the
pros and cons of using this program with the class. This will lead into the lesson.

Detailed Teaching Sequence:

(Provide sufficient detail that would enable a substitute to effectively present this lesson. Bulleted statements are preferred)

Day 1:
• Teacher will explain that they will be creating a slide show on the water cycle.
• Provide students with another tutorial and answer any questions on how to use Prezi.
• Hand out rubric and discuss the expectations of the project
• Students may either pick a section of the water cycle to focus on, or do the water cycle as a whole

• Allow students time to explore the program

Day 2
• Students will bring their ideas to class and create their project using pictures, transitions, and different effects

• Students that finish early may help their peers

Day 3
• Students will share their presentations to the class
• Each student will look at 2-3 presentations and have the opportunity to make comments.

Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities

Teacher will guide the students through Prezi to introduce the lesson. They will discuss pros and cons of the slide show presentation.
Students will work independently on each of their projects. They will be graded according to a rubric based on a visual display, content,
grammar, originality, etc.

Closure:
Each student will open their project in the computer lab. The students will each see 2-3 presentations and complete the feed back form. The
teacher will then grade each presentation.
