DHA Questions (10x4=40 Marks)

1. What are different methods of representing the scale of map? What is the advantage of a
graphical map?
2. Explain three methods generally used for fixing positions of a point in horizontal plane?
3. Determine the scale of plan & the Representative Fraction in the following two cases-
(a) A line 150m long is represented by 7.5cm on plan.
(b) A ground area of 112.5m2 is represented by 4.5cm2.
4. A line was measured by a 30m chain which was 0.2m too long, & was found to be 12
chains. Find the correct length?
5. Define the following terms;-
(a) Check lines
(b) Tie lines
(c) Range ties
(d) Base line
(e) Optical Square
6. Write short notes on:--
(a) Simple Clinometer.
(b) Stepping Method.
(c) Shrinkage Factor
(d) Plain Scale & a Diagonal Scale
(e) Line Ranger
7. What are the different Chain Correction? How would you obtain Combined Correction?
8. What is an offset? What are the different types of offsets?
9. Discuss the methods of overcoming difficulties if there are obstacles in chaining & ranging
both?
10. A steel tape is 30m long between end graduations at a temperature of 27 ̊ C under a pull of
45N when lying on a flat. The tape is stretched over two supports which it records 30.0m
& is supported at two intermediate supports equally spaced. All the supports are at same
level, & tape is allowed to sag freely between the supports.
If temperature of field is 32̊ C & the pull on the tape is 75N, Calculate the actual length
between the end graduation, & equivalent length at mean sea level if the measurement
were made at an elevations 1000.0 m.
Given:- Area of cross section of tape= 7.0 mm2
Mass of tape = 1.60kg
Coefficient of Expansion = 1.1x10-5 / ̊C
Young’s modulus = 2x105 N/mm2
Radius of Earth = 6370km.
AA Questions (10x2=20 Marks)
Q. 1 The following bearing were observed while traversing with a compass. Mention which
station was affected by local attraction and determine the corrected bearings.

Line FB BB
AB 45° 45' 226° 10'
BC 96° 55' 277° 5'
CD 29° 45' 209° 10'
DE 324° 48' 144° 48'

Q. 2 The following staff readings were observed successively with a level, the instrument having
been moved after third, sixth and eighth readings: 2.228, 1.606, 0.988, 2.090, 2.864, 1.262,
0.602, 1.982, 1.044, 2.684 meter. Enter the above readings in a page of level book and calculate
the R.L. of points if the first reading was taken with a staff held on a bench mark of 432.384 m.
