1.0 SCOPE:

1.1 This specification defines the minimum requirements for the design, construction,
performance and features of the equipment listed in the accompanying data sheets.

1.2 This specification applies to the following type of Instrument.

1.2.1 “Magnetostrictive Type Level Transmitter”

2.0 PURPOSE:

2.1 Magnetostrictive type Level Transmitters shall be supplied in accordance with the following
documents: -

 Data Sheets
 This specification

2.2 In the event of conflict between the requirements of this specification and the data sheets,
order of precedence shall be as indicated in section 2.1.

3.0 GENERAL:

3.1 Tagging

3.1.1 A permanently attached (with drive pins or equal) stainless steel tag (s) stamped
with the following information shall be provided on the sensor and the electronic
housing.

3.1.2 Each individual carton or box shall be tagged with the instrument tag number on the top
and side of the carton.

3.1.3 If individual cartons are grouped in a larger box for ease of shipment. Then the larger box
must be marked on the top with the tag number of all the instruments in the box.

3.2 Packing

3.2.1 All ports and openings shall be sealed; Threaded connections shall be protected
with metallic or molded plastic caps or plugs.

3.2.2 It is the responsibility of the instrument vendor to ensure that the equipment is
adequately protected and packed to meet the shipping and delivery requirements.

3.3 Vendor Responsibilities

3.3.1 It is the responsibility of the vendor to verify the selection of Magnetostrictive type
level transmitter, type and material of construction for each application based on the
information provided on the data sheets.

3.3.2 Vendor shall arrange for certifications from statutory bodies when required e.g. IBR, etc.

3.3.3 The paint finish of the instrument & mounting accessories shall be epoxy so as to meet the
requirement of harsh & corrosive industrial atmosphere

4.0 CONSTRUCTION :

4.1 Design

The level measuring system shall consist of a level sensing element i.e. float,
magnetostrictive wire & a transmitter to convert the level signal into electrical one.

4.1.1 Sensing Element

4.1.1.1 The sensing element shall be magnetostrictive type responsive to changes in

liquid level.

4.1.1.2 Magnetostrictive level transmitter shall be work on the principal of magnestriction

& the effect of a magnetic on the magnestictive wire as the basis for the operation
of the instrument.

4.1.1.3 Float element shall be as per manufacturer’s standard & shall meet the
requirement as per data sheet. Length and diameter shall be factory calculated
depending on specified liquid level range and service conditions.

4.1.2 Transmitter

4.1.2.1 Wherever transmitter is specified for level configuration it shall be of

magnetostrictive type SMART, 2 wire type with 4~20 mA HART output. Accuracy
of the transmitter shall be +/- 0.01% F.S. Cable entry shall be ½” NPT.

4.1.2.2 Transmitter shall have fixed 100% proportional action either direct or reverse as
specified. However transmitter shall be capable for reversing the action without
any additional parts.

4.1.2.3 Transmitter shall be provided with a local digital LCD display as specified in the
data sheet.

4.1.3 All items shall be weatherproof to IP-65 minimum. In case of hazardous area, enclosure
for electric / electronic items shall be certified for Exproof (EEx’d’ II C T4) or intrinsically
safe to EExia II CT4 as indicated in the data sheet, approved for use in the specified area
by an authorised testing agency such as CENELEC, BASEEFA, FM or equivalent.
Evidence of such approval shall be affixed to each instrument or copy of certification letter
shall be provided.

4.1.4 In the event of transmitters being specified as ‘SMART’.

All transmitters shall be high performance type microprocessor based ‘SMART’ type with
HART protocol unless otherwise specified.

4.2 Enclosures

4.2.1 Sensor & Transmitter Assembly shall be suitable for outdoor installation & enclosure shall
be dust proof, epoxy painted to suit the plant corrosive environment, weatherproof to IP 66
minimum.

4.2.1 Cable entry for transmitter shall be ½” NPT (F). No. of cable entries shall be as specified
in the data sheet. Unused cable entries shall be plugged.

4.3 Material of Construction

4.3.1 Material of construction of Float and other wetted parts shall be SS 316 minimum unless
otherwise specified in the data sheet.

4.4 Process Connections

4.4.1 Process connection for displacer element and external chamber shall be flanged as per
ANSI B 16.5. Flange size, rating, shall be as per data sheet. Flange finish shall be as per
125~250AARH.

5.0 FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

5.1 Span / Zero adjustment

Span / Zero adjustment shall be done through push buttons by opening the cover. All instruments
shall be factory calibrated for the specified span.

5.2 Transmitter shall meet the requirements of IEC 801 – 3 AND SAMA PMC 33 – 1. A test signal of
20volts / meter at 1.0meter over a frequency range of 27 to 500MHz shall not affect the accuracy
of measurement and transmission by more than + 0.1%.

5.3 Accuracy and Repeatability

Accuracy : ± 0.01%of span or better

Repeatability : ± 0.01% of span or better

6.0 PLANT ENVIRONMENT & SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

As plant area is laden with corrosive / hazards, suitable protection is required on relevant
components/ enclosures. The exact details as per offered items shall be specified by vendor in the
offer like anti-corrosion painting.

7.0 DOCUMENTATION

Vendor to submit complete assembly drawing with dimensional details, make, model no. with
decodification, etc. along with offer & during post order stage for review / approval.

8.0 SPARE PHILOSOPHY

Bidder shall quote separately for

a) Commissioning spares
b) 2 year spares for trouble free operation

9.0 DOCUMENTATION :

All the calibration & functional test certificates of vendors shall be as per the requirements / data in
this specifications.

10.0 INSPECTION AND QUALITY ASSURANCE PLAN :

10.1 Equipment is deemed to be ready for Inspection by Purchaser only when :

- Vendor has firstly carried out his own Inspection and is satisfied that the equipment
meets the specified requirements. The vendor shall maintain documented evidence
of the same.

- All applicable certificates and quality documents are available for review at the
inspection location.

- Approved drawings and / or procedures with evidence of acceptance by the

Purchaser and / or his nominated representatives are available at the Inspection
location for use by the Purchaser and / or his nominated representative.

10.2 The Vendor should notify Purchaser, at least seven days in advance of “Readiness for
Inspection.”

10.3 The inspection point may be waived at the sole discretion of the purchaser. Such a decision
shall be communicated to the vendor by an Inspection Wavier form.

10.4 The purchase order shall identify any items of equipment / material which are required to be
inspected by a third party inspector.

10.5 Each Magnetostrictive type level transmitter shall be checked for compliance with the
specification checking:

- Tag No.
- Model / Manufacturer’s trademark
- Material of Construction
- Process Connections
- Range
- Power Supply
- Output
- Calibrated Span
- Cable Entry
- Area Classification
- WP Classification

10.6 Each Transmitter to be calibrated and ensured to meet Manufacturer’s performance figures.
Tests should be as follows:
- Calibration check 0 – 25% - 50% - 75% - 100%
- Static Pressure Tests
- Check, Magnetostrictive sensitivity

10.7 All test and material certificates to be checked for validity.

10.8 Refer specification no. 1308 / C / 14I051016-I and 1308 / C / 14I051016 - V for detailed QAP
and inspection requirement.

10.9 Vendor to submit QAP after order.
