CONTENTS
Introduction: Time
It will not stay with you. Instead, it will boldly pass by you with a swift but permanent course.
Time is not your friend and it is not something that you can capture. It is, however, powerful
enough to capture for you: the memories, the years you wish to relive, the people you wish to
relive it with.
Time is not your friend but do not be foolish: it is not your foe either.
Once upon a time, we dared to ask Time a wish. We wished for it to stand still. We begged the
ever elusive Time not to flee. We asked it to capture memoirs for us that may be immobile but its
stillness means we get to keep them forever.
Photos. Names. Dreams. Stories. All of these amassed in what we know to be a yearbook. Call it
what you will: a relic, compilation, tribute, or an unforgettable narrative of your most treasured
and reviled school years. A yearbook may be your most prized possession. A yearbook may be
your source of daily frustration. A yearbook may be the version of the life you have always
desired to have or that you have yearned to erase.
A yearbook may undoubtedly take many forms but for us? Well, we simply call it a wish.
Time is not your friend as it is not your foe. It, however, keeps its promises.
The Jubilarians
Recalling the events of the past through vivid imagination and persistent questions is no
less than inspiring. A yearbook should allow every reader to do this when browsed years later
after its release. Alas, it should still be effective after more than twenty, fifty or even a
hundred amazing and well-spent years!
6
Fortunately, what happened exactly a hundred years ago can still be reminisced and
revisited from time to time through the presence of a graduation annual. Whether a lot of
changes took place before, individuals will still be subjected to change from time to time for
as long as they live. Adverse or affirmative, a change will always be something that people
can look back on.
The Class 1918 is a complete depiction of the Class 2018. It’s as if the thunders and the
lightning happened at the exact time when the first hundred freshmen students first set foot
on the halls of Bulacan High School. From there, the first significant triumph took place after
a freshman won the first prize in a General Composition Contest in December 1914.
Alongside victory is the gloominess that loomed over when only fifty-two of the hundred
takers of the final examinations passed. The Class 1918 just like the Class 2018, has always
been an achiever. Class 2018 with almost 800 students also manifest an impeccable skills and
competencies to bag awards from different fields inside and outside the school. The
excellence that the Home of The Champions has rooted on its students exceeded and has
made a constant recognition for every Del Pilarian wherever they go. Truly, the brilliance of
our students a hundred years ago even up to now hasn’t changed and just gets even better.
Conventional may be the word to describe the way they presented themselves in the
souvenir. What they have with them is a fierce look of a graduating class. All with honor and
conventionality of taking pictures, they were not wearing any smile and were all looking so
serious. It is not because the happenings today are more worthy of the curves in the lips but
it’s just because it took until 1920’s and beyond for smiles to start becoming the standard
expression in photographs. And so, it’s not a surprise to see the graduating class of 2018,
all wearing their smiles once a camera was shown in front of them at any moment of the
day.
The remaining days of the second semester of the Class 1918 was made even memorable
because of the lawn party which Manuel Angeles described as where “friends and
schoolmates were served dainty repast and were provided of a proverbial feast of reason and
flow of soul”. Even today, the Class 2018 has a number of soirees usually done every month
of February. This requires far fancier attire and the social interaction out of our door.
With the sweet fruits reaped from the production of the first-ever year book is also the
unfortunate turn of events. The remaining days of the senior years of the Class 1918 were
7
suddenly veered to mourning because of the untimely death of Pedro R. Tiongson at the age
of 23. Manuel Angeles, the class historian in his historical narrative of their class said:
“So good and stainless was his record that his early departure to the Great Beyond was
mourned by the whole school. He was among the best of our class, loved by all for the
nobility of his character.”
It was also through Pedro Tiongson that the copy of the commencement souvenir, The
Bulakenian was found. According to Rolando Tiongson, it was his grandmother, Teodora
who is the sister of Pedro who kept the copy for a very long time since it’s the only souvenir
they got for the family Pedro had left behind.
From this downfall is the great success of the Class 1918. Their personal quote together
with the ambition were written on the class souvenir. Some wanted to enter University of the
Philippines for college while most of them desired to be a soldier, a pedagogue, a farmer and
a doctor. Some just intended to continue their studies. Fortunately, they became successful in
their chosen fields, one became a Central Bank governor, another became a pensionado to the
US and a top sports official after the war.
The Class 2018 on the other hand is also rooting for a success, just like them, most of the
graduating students want to pursue college and find their fate in universities and state
colleges inside and outside the province. Some might find it hard to enter college but will
surely do their best for a brighter future. Wherever it is, Del Pilarians will surely perform
their best to live up to the endless expectations of the people and the institution that equipped
them with skills and competencies for the fast-pacing world.
Those are the glorious days of the Class 1918. They may not seem like the best
graduating class the Bulacan High School or the Class 2018 of the Marcelo H. Del Pilar
National High School ever had but they both gave life to the remarkable days of their high
school life. One thing is for sure and that they have always done their best.
There are roads that take you to what can only be called as exhilarating endeavors. Your
heart races, your spine tingles, and you have to pause every now and then to catch your
breath. You keep your eyes peeled for whatever’s in store and you quicken your pace as to
not miss anything.
But there are also roads that calm you. They may not be as lavish but they bring a certain
warmness, a certain serenity that your heart finds familiar. A sigh escapes from your lips as
you absorb everything. There is beauty in taking your time and it is a beauty you have slowly
learned to welcome.
8
There are roads that take you to the extraordinary and there are these roads—roads that
simply take you home.
For the class of 1968, home began on the beginning of class 1964. Funnily enough, the
clumsily crafted home started to build when walls were broken down between the students
through the held demonstration class by the third week. During the first year, the Freshman
Organization was formed with Miss Belen Macahilig as its adviser. The freshmen welcomed
the notion of an organization with open arms, eager to immerse in the pristine and unknown.
Perhaps this resonates with how the pioneer batch of Grade 7 students of Batch 2018 faced
the new curriculum. Of course, this encounter was met with qualms but the reluctance and
caution are not only natural but also showed that is through asking that we learn and for that,
we should never steer away from questions.
The former freshmen of class 1968 then emerged as sophomores on the second year.
With the help and guidance of Mrs. Ester Navarro, the Sophomore Organization was brought
into being. Jubilance sprung from aspiring writers when journalism was offered to second
year students in the special science class for the first time. This reflects that of the experience
of Batch 2018, wherein special programs were introduced, such as the Special Program for
Journalism, Sports, Foreign Language, and the Arts.
The start of the third year met the embrace of the students through their no less than
active participation in school activities. The establishment of the Junior Class Organization
was made possible through the advisory of Florante Morante. As April struck, the Junior-
Senior ball was organized. This was also the time when the spirit of camaraderie and
journalism were at its peak, through the 10th National Girl Scout of the Philippines
Encampment and National Secondary Schools Press Conference. Until this day, the school
continued to join encampments and press conferences, awakening these spirits through and
through.
But no matter how long and seemingly endless, a road is always paved with an end. With
this in mind, the class of 1968 dove on to their last year.
Fingers were crossed when the Republic and Ang Malaya staff members took place, done
through a series of tests. From the selected pool of writers, delegates were plucked to take
part in the National Press Conference in Lucena City.
The Junior-Senior Ball was again held on February 17, 1960 at the capitol grounds. On
April 15, 1968, sixteen fourth-year sections collaborated with the guidance of Miss Asuncion
Mendoza in order to celebrate their beloved teachers through the Senior Day program. The
tradition never ended and perhaps never will, as students persist to give homage to teachers
through different programs up to this date. It is marvelous that we seem to pass on this
undying love for the people who remained dedicated in teaching us. That, or it is something
innate in every student. Nevertheless, both ideas hold a certain allure.
Alas, a road is always paved with an end. But roads are not only to be traveled once.
Roads are made to be traveled to your heart’s desire and the heart does not count through
mere numbers. The heart counts through memories and these memories live on through the
9
batch’s donation: the school’s very own clinic, HILOM Center, given in 2018 during their
Ruby Jubilee. It connects them to every batch that will step on the campus of MHPNHS and
it is a connection that cannot be severed.
There are roads that take you to the extraordinary and there are these roads—roads that
simply take you home. So let that sigh elude your lips and relax your tensed shoulders. There
is no need to rush. Close your eyes and take a step. You’re home.

Purificacion D. Paguiligan, Gng. Maribini De Mesa at Gng. Josefina Dela Cruz, na kumatawan
10
High School.
Tatlong track (Academik, Teknikal at Bokasyonal at Arts and Design) ang siyang naipatupad.
Tumakbo sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni Gng. Ana U. Ramos, nanunumparang kahaliling punong
Social Science Education Collective, I Research and Innovate in Science and Engineering
Rosario.
Philippines.
Arts and Design – 12 MMSanDiego, na “Hindi Malilimutan”.
naranasan.
Greetings
Leonor M. Briones
Secretary, Department of Education
My warmest greetings to all the completers and graduates of School Year 2017-2018!
12
It is our goal to ensure that the K to 12 Program empowers you, our dear learners, to
become critical thinkers and problem solvers both in the local and global communities. I am
positive that you have learned not only to memorize facts and formulae, but also to relate
these facts and theories to what is happening in the real world. As stated in this year’s theme,
“K to 12 Learners: Ready to Face Life’s Challenges,” we hope we have equipped you
with 21st century skills and lifelong competencies through quality education that is
accessible, relevant, and liberating for all.
As you reminisce your travails and rejoice your achievements, always remember that
your teachers, parents, families, fellow learners, school officials and personnel, community
members, education partners, and government leaders are always with you every step of the
way. Let them serve as your inspiration to dream and strive not only for your own success,
but more so for this country’s progress.
Whatever path you will pursue after this momentous occasion, may you continue to
uphold the core values of your alma mater and DepEd – Maka-Diyos, Maka-tao,
Makakalikasan, and Makabansa. Bear in mind that while education is your right, it also
bestows upon you a greater responsibility to contribute to the betterment of our society.
Malcolm S. Garma
Officer-in-Charge, Office of the Regional Director, DepEd Region III
This moment marks one of the most significant milestones in the history of the Philippine
Basic Education System-the year when we welcome the first batch of K to 12 graduates who
are ready for the world of higher education, for work, or for entrepreneurship.
As the biggest education reform in our country, the K to 12 Program envisions to produce
holistically-developed Filipinos with 21st Century Skills in Information, Media, and
Technology, Learning and Innovation, Communication, and Life and Career. Through these
vital life competencies, we hope that our basic education graduates are now more prepared,
confident, globally competitive to cope with the diverse ordeals and hindrances that they may
encounter as they go through their life journey.
This year’s theme “K to 12 Learners: Ready to Face Life’s Challenges” utterly embodies
the journey that we have taken in bringing forth the much needed educational reform for our
Filipino learner. It may have been a long hurdle, as we have gone against the many bumps
and stops in the full implementation of the K to 12 Program. Nevertheless, through the
countless efforts and dedicated support of all stakeholders and education partners across the
country, most especially our hardworking teachers and school heads, we reached the finish
line and surpassed the challenges and obstructions.
13
and give solutions to emerging problems, and more importantly, provide strategies and
interventions to enhance the delivery of our education services.
With this, I sincerely confer my accolades to all our graduates. You are a testament that
in life, one only needs the right amount of eagerness, knack, and tenacity to defeat the
adversities and ultimately pursue one’s dreams and aspirations in life.
Melissa S. Sanchez
Officer-In-Charge, Office of the Schools Division Superintendent, City of Malolos
Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado
Governor, Province of Bulacan
At
18
kalimutan kailanman an gating Pambangsang Mataas na Paaralan.
man ako makarating, ano man ang aking gawin, alam kong lubos nila akong ipinagmamalaki at
ipagmamalaki.
At kung sakali man na madapa
akong muli, patuloy akong babangon at sasabihin, “babawi ako”.
At
20
pakikipagsapalaran.
pangangarap- gaano man ito kababa o kataas, maliit man o malaki.
Tunay ngang ‘There is no place like
home …’
Jullien Abbey Lim, Baby Jane Adan, at Maricar Acedera.
Janena Acosta, Kim Salaveria, Erelle Posilio, Philline Lugue, at Hannah Pagtalunan.
magazine sa richest people under 40.
Joice Arcega, Faith Cruz, Maribel Casanas, at Pamela Arellano.
May pait, may tuwa, lungkot, pagbagsak, pagbangon,
at tagumpay.
ika-walong kabanata ng Noli Me Tangere.
may puso lamang.
25
Brushes up! Guitars, pencils, or whatever tools the Arts & Design students prefer to use, the
world is theirs to shape and adorn with the rawest and most exquisite forms of art; because after
all, isn’t the earth without art simply “eh”?

at Dunong.
Kulay
(picture)
