Chapter 2: System Requirements for Windows 10

So, you ’ re now stoked to upgrade your Windows to Windows 10. But before upgrading
to Windows 10, ascertain that your computer, tablet, phone or device has the minimum
hardware for upgrading to Windows 10.
Here are the System Requirements that you need to be able to upgrade to Windows 10.
System Requirements for Windows 10
1. Processor
Your processor must be at least 1 Gigahertz (GHz) or faster. If it ’ s not, then you
will have trouble upgrading your Windows.
2. Display
The Display must be 800 x 600. An increased and decreased Display size can ruin
your upgrade.
3. Hard Disk Space
The Hard Disk Space must be 16 Gigabytes (GB) for 32-bit OS or 20 Gigabytes
(GB) for 64-bit OS.
4. RAM
The RAM must be 1 Gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 Gigabytes (GB) for 64-bit.
5. Graphic Cards
The Graphic Cards should be DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver.
6. Operating System
The latest Operating System (OS) of your computer must be Windows 8.1 or
Windows 7 SPI. It must have been updated recently.

Other Requirements
1. The size of the Windows 10 OS is around 3 GB, so you have to make room for it.
Once you download Windows 10, your disk space may be insufficient. You have to
delete unnecessary files to free more disk space. This can allow you to store more
files in your Windows 10.
If the disk space is not enough, you may need additional devices such as, an
external USB drive to perform the upgrade.
2. Also, you need an Internet connection to upgrade to Windows 10. Make sure that
your Internet is fast, so you will not wait for hours to upgrade.
3. Double check your computer ’ s compatibility with Windows 10 by perusing your
manufacturers information page or website. You can also check your computers
compatibility by using the ‘ check PC ’ app found in the “ Get Windows 10 ’ app.
4. Even if your computer or device meets the System Requirements, you still have to
Double check the firmware and feature support; the driver and similar aspects for
compatibility with Windows 10.
5. Take note that during the upgrade, apps that are not compatible with Windows 10
may be removed. So, ensure that you have checkedon the existing apps before
upgrading. The app, ‘ Get Windows 10 ’ can be used to check the compatibility of
existing apps in your device.
The app will provide a list of these incompatible apps for you to accept or reject. If
you accept the removal of the apps, Windows 10 will remove them during the
upgrade. But before accepting or rejecting, you may want to take note of these
appsand ensure that you don ’ t truly need them. When you have reached a sound
decision, you can now proceed to upgrade your device.
6. Remember, the Microsoft Family Safety settings for your child is not
automatically carried over when you upgrade to Windows 10. Therefore, you have
to set the safety settings again, after installation of your Windows 10.

A quicker way to find out the compatibility of your device is to check on twothings, the
specifications of your device and making use of “ Get Windows 10 ” app. Whatever
choice you make, upgrade only when you have decided wisely.

Chapter 4: What You Can Do with Windows 10

With Windows, you can perform tasks that may seem impossible. For you to truly benefit
from Windows 10, you must know how to perform the tasks listed below.
These tasks can make you enjoy your Windows 10 exposure.

Work Across Multiple Windows
You can work across multiple windows (3 to 4 windows) by following these steps:

Step #1 – Click on the Start Menu button
The Start Menu button is found at the farthest end of your bottom left corner of the
Taskbar. When you click on this, it will display your user interface.
Step #2 – Choose what you want to work on
Click on it. You can minimize it by clicking the minimize button found at the upper right
hand portion of your screen. Drag the small windows/screens to each corner to optimize
the space on your monitor.
Do this step with the other three or four tasks that you have chosen. In the example below,
the 3 windows (tasks) selected are Word, Paint and YouTube. They can all be contained
on one screen. See photo below.

Step #3 – Work on each window accordingly
You can then proceed to work on the three apps, simultaneously, watching them all from
one screen, instead of going back and forth. You can always click on ‘maximize screen’
when you want to view the whole screen of each app.

Working across devices
It would be smart to know how to work across your devices. Working across devices
include, playing movies and music, receiving notifications and opening your files in any
device and moving quickly from one app to another - in any device.
Step #1 – Choose your apps
If you want to save your apps in your start menu on your personal computer, tablet or
cellphone, choose your apps and then click on them. Choose only the app that you often
use. Don’t clutter your Start Menu by loading it with unnecessary and useless apps.
Step #2 – Add your files to One Drive
You can add your files by opening OneDrive from your Windows 10. To access your
OneDrive on your Windows 10, just type OneDrive on the search box on the upper right
hand corner of your monitor. See photo below.

You may also scan or scroll down your user interface or browse your apps to search for
OneDrive. If you use it often, you can opt to install it on your Start Menu screen, so you
can swiftly click on it whenever you want to use it.

Step #3 – Start accessing your files
You can then start accessing your files across your devices. There are many built-in apps
on Windows 10 that can help you work across your devices. With the help of OneDrive
your apps such as, Calendar, Maps, Groove and Photos, can have a back-up and can be
shared across any of your devices. See photo below.

Take advantage of “Hey, Cortana”
Since Cortana is your Personal Digital Assistant, it will help you manage your computer
efficiently. If you’re familiar with Siri, it acts in a similar manner, except that Cortana is
an assistant who can ‘observe’ your activities and learn from them. The next time you
come in, it can ‘predict’ what you plan to do and act accordingly. It can do this by
reminding you of your appointments and dates at the exact time that you want it to. It will
also help you organize and get your tasks done easily, and on time.
Cortana is programmed to ‘monitor’ your computer activities, so that when it comes to
know you more – your favorite activity and your personal preferences - it can respond
readily to your needs. Cortana’s response will be based on the information gleaned from
your computer tasks. Cortana tries to learn about you and use this data to respond to you.
So, how can you enable “Hey, Cortana” on your Windows 10? Here are the steps:
Step #1 – On the Taskbar, click on the Search Box
As soon as you click the Search Box, it will display some apps on the left side of your
screen.
Step #2 – Click on the Notebook icon
When you click on the icon, it will display other apps.

Step #3 – Click on Settings
This will display the “Hey, Cortana,” on and off button.

Step #4 – Turn on Cortana
Choose the ‘on’ button. There is also an option of selecting the ‘on and off’ button of ‘Let
Cortana respond to Hey, Cortana’. Turn this button on. If you turn this on, Cortana will
respond to you anytime.
However, turning this button on will be costlier because of the increased rate of battery
consumption. See photo below.

Step #5 – Start interacting
You can start ‘asking’ Cortana your questions or commanding her to do some commands.
You have to start by saying first, “Hey, Cortana,” and then state your command quickly.
Don’t pause too long because you may have to start anew.

Examples of commands are:
“Hey, Cortana, send an email to my sister.”
“Hey, Cortana, convert 17 ounces to milliliters.”
“Hey, Cortana, remind me at 2 p.m. that I have a date with my husband.”
‘Hey, Cortana, wake me up at 3 p.m.
“Hey, Cortana, what’s your citizenship?
Cortana can perform almost anything for you when it comes to your computer, whether
it’s business or pleasure. You can ‘talk’ to Cortana when you’re killing time or when
you’re simply bored.
For now, Cortana for Windows 10 is available only in some countries such as, United
States, China, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, France and Germany.
