Question 3:

3.1.)
Willie Bester's "Necklace Murder", 1989, is an ink wash and collage work with a
simplified style. Personally, I think that the artwork is depicting the artists
emotions about necklacing, which? was not uncommon at the time, leading me to
think that the stylization and splashes of ink form an aspect of an expressionistic
style also present in the artwork. He has used words and objects with certain
general connotations to depict this. Such as "judas" (who was the man whom
betrayed Jesus), "collaborator", "informers", a tyre (which was the "necklace"
that was put around the victims) and oil which was poured over the victims and
set alight. Overall, I think that the artwork is the artists way of expressing his
feelings on the subject of "Necklacing".
