Choosing to work in the field of education, I never took this career as just teaching the

students the things on the curriculum. I have had many teachers that went above and beyond for

me and taught me life lessons and because of that I chose this profession in hopes of being able

to offer that to more students. While there are many issues within CCSD, these issues are also in

various forms in other districts as well. Every person that is aware of said issues can be a factor

in what makes a difference in bettering the education system and changing it to be more focused

on the students and the needs that they have. I believe that if I make the decision to make a

career for myself in education, I could be one more person to help achieve this goal, and once the

system is focused again on the students and not so much on standardized testing, we could find

that there are significant changes in students academics and behavior if they feel that their

teachers are there for them, and not a paycheck.

It would be a disservice to students for me to halt any growth in their individuality and

creativity. I believe that my job as their educator would be to help facilitate and guide them as

they let their curiosity and questions guide the narrative. Every student should be given what

they need, and I want to simultaneously give them the space they should have so they can form

their own questions. With this, the students will be able to come to their own conclusion

encouraging the students to participate in critical reasoning.

Children at such a young age are so easily influenced and every word or action a person

does to them, inevitably guides the student to how they will look at the world as they progress in
their lives. Students should be taught that it is okay to make mistakes if they are willing to learn

from them. My plan is to reward more than punish as I understand that I never know what a child

is going through and their voice matters. Every student should feel welcome in their classroom,

and that involves acknowledging the diversity that exists in the world. Students should be taught

to welcome the differences in every culture and be encouraged to learn and understand instead of

teaching them to conform to the American patriotism and other radicalisms.

In this profession, I want to be the best educator for my students and for that to happen, I

understand I will never stop learning. My plans for this career are to get my bachelor’s degree in

Education and then once I achieve that, I want to go forth in my credential and degrees and

obtain a full-time teaching job and simultaneously pursue a master’s degree in Curriculum and

Teaching. After I have that, right now it is still up in the air but something that has crossed my

mind is pursuing a doctorate’s degree in this field. I plan on applying to summer programs for

children in one of the REC centers that CCSD offers, and possibly applying for a Safe Key

program at a school the following school year.
