Takayasu Retinopathy
A 29-year-old woman complained of gradual loss of vision
in both eyes starting 5 months ago. She had no history of
previous ophthalmologic disorders. In the last 2 years, she had
been under treatment for vertigo with cinnarizine. On fundus
examination of the right eye, a wreath-like anastomosis of the
retinal vessels was observed along with narrowing and
dilations of the rest of the retinal vasculature with a sub-
hyaloid hemorrhage. In the left eye, neovascularization and
microaneurysms were more evident. The patient was treated
with laser photocoagulation and referred for a multidisci-
plinary evaluation and care.

Massive Serous Retinal Detachment Related to Severe

Preeclampsia
A 32-year-old woman was referred for retinal evaluation
after induced delivery due to severe preeclampsia. Previous
medical history was unremarkable. Visual acuity 48 hours
after delivery was 20/400 in both eyes. Anterior chamber
examination was unremarkable. Dilated funduscopic exami-
nation showed massive serous retinal detachment involving
the posterior pole and midperiphery in both eyes (Fig 1A).
The autofluorescence evidenced hyperautofluorescent sub-
retinal material (Fig 1B), and the spectral-domain optical
coherence tomography demonstrated high and low density
subretinal fluid in association with outer retinal folds. The
retinal pigment epithelium demonstrated irregularity with
areas of detachment (as seen in the subfoveal area). At a 2
week follow-up, funduscopic examination (C) and SD-OCT
demonstrated resolution of the retinal detachment. Visual
acuity improved to 20/25 in both eyes.
