1. Among the samples in the table, which do you think is classified as matter? Put a
check (/) under the appropriate column in Table 1. Discuss the reason to explain
your answer for each sample. Write your answer in the last column.
Procedure:
1. Get a Periodic Table of Elements. Locate the atomic number.
Q1. What is the element with an atomic number of 15?
Phosphorus.
Q2. How many protons does the atom of this element have?
15.
Q3. How many protons are there in an atom of aluminum?
13.
Q4. Which element has the smallest number of protons in its atom?
Hydrogen.
2. While the number of protons is the same with atoms of a particular element,
the number of neutrons may vary. Atoms having the same number of protons
but different number of neutrons are referred as isotopes. The isotopes are
identified through their mass number which is the sum of the number of
protons and the number of neutrons in an atom. A shorthand notation for
isotope includes the element’s symbol and mass number, for instance, Ca-40.
Consider two isotopes of carbon, C-12 and C-13.
Q5. How many protons are there in the C-12 isotope?
6 protons.
Q6. How about the number of neutrons?
6.
Q7. How many protons are there in the C-13 isotope?
6 protons.
Q8. How about the number of neutrons?
7 neutrons.
Atomic mass is the mass of an atom of a particular element. It is the average of the
mass numbers of the naturally occurring isotopes of the element multiplied with
their respective abundance. You will not compute for atomic mass. However, you
have to know, at least, where to find it in the periodic table. Refer to the periodic
table at the end of this module.
Q9. What is the atomic mass of magnesium (Mg)?
12.
Q10. How about for potassium (K)?
39.0983 u

Procedures:
1. Record in a Daily Meal Journal what you eat
for three (3) days. Table 1 shows a sample meal record for one (1)
day.

2. Record your daily meal here for 3 days. You may add additional columns and
rows if necessary.
An accurate meal journal tells a lot about your eating patterns. The Daily Meal
Journal below belongs to a fourteen-year old named Marc. Study his meal journal and
answer the questions that follow

Q1. Which food group in the Food Pyramid do you observe the greatest number of
servings?
June 18.
Q2. What did Marc eat that belong to this food group?
Fried tilapia.
Q3. Which food group/s do you see without servings?
June 24.
Q4. Based on the Food Pyramid, how many servings from that group should Marc must
eat?
1 pc.
Q5. What should Marc include in his meals to ensure that he gets all the nutrients
indicated in the Food Pyramid?
Fruits and vedgetables.
Procedures:
1. Using the table below as a guide, research on the
sources of carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins and minerals, the functions of
these nutrients, and the health problems that result when the requirement for
these nutrients are not adequately met. Write your answer on the table.

Question:
Q2. What will happen if a pest will attack the banana plants?
When pests attack banana plant it destroys the crop. It can either make the plant
dead, or infest the plant and the fruit it bears.
Q3. What will happen if a strong typhoon comes and heavy flooding occurs?
If a strong typhoon comes and heavy flooding occurs several things could happen.
People could die from drowning, homes could be ruined, and landslides could
occur.
Q4. How will this affect the helpers and owner of the plantation?
The Possible Results is massive destruction because Banana has very weak foundation and
unlike trees, Bananas give little resistance in strong winds that can result eventually to falling in
the ground. The destruction may result to losses in Agriculture and it would take time to plant
Bananas again and harvest may take longer.
Questions:
Animals, plants, bacteria, and fungi are the biotic components present in the
ecosystem.
Q6. Describe some relationships and interactions that occur among these biotic
components.
Mutualism-both organisms are benefited from each other. No one is harmed.
Commensalism-one organism is benefited but the other is not and unharmed.
Predation-this relationship involves predator and prey. Prey is harmed and eaten
while the predator is benefited.
Q7. Predict the effect of the presence of many crowns of thorns sea star to the
ecosystem and its biotic components.
Crown of thorns sea star is predicted to have a dangerous effect to all marine lives
and of course to the ecosystem and its biotic components
Biodiversity boosts ecosystem productivity where each species, no matter how small, all
have an important role to play. For example, A larger number of plant species means a
greater variety of crops. Greater species diversity ensures natural sustainability for all
life forms
Your task is to make a very short case study on the activities that you, your
family, or other people in the community are doing that can be an impact for the
destruction of our environment.
Guidelines:
1. Please follow the format: Short bondpaper, arial 12, double spacing
2. The case study should be 3 or more pages. This includes the content and
the photo of the study.
3. The case study must have a title of the problem.
4. The study must be more of content (word) and less on pictures.
5. The study must be original, taken from home/ community, with back up
sources and reference and free from plagiarism.
6. Follow the guide question below for the smooth flow of the study.
a. Where is the location and setting of the problem?
b. What is the relevant facts of your problem? Search on the internet.
c. Why does the problem exist?
d. Who is responsible of the problem?
e. How does it impact the environment?
f. How do you see its impact to our environment if the problem will
not be given an attention?
g. As student, what can you suggest to minimize the impact of
problem to our environment?
7. The content of your case study must be done by your own words and no
copy paste content.
