Philosophy of Sex, and STD Awareness

Topic/Lesson

1. Difficult Concepts (What concepts did you find difficult to understand?)

i. The evil of concupiscence
ii. The clear differences between Sexual Perversion and Sexual Desire
iii. Sexual paradigm – what does this exactly mean?

2. Insights (What new insights or learnings did you gain in discussion/ activity?)

i. Before reading the article, I did not know that contraceptives for oral sex
even existed. However, after reading the article, I now realize that there is
such a thing called Dental dams, and these are oral sex contraceptives that
act as a barrier between the mouth and the genitals.

ii. Before reading the article, I thought that sexual arousal came purely from
physical attraction and physical touch. However, after reading the article, I
now realize that humans can also get sexually aroused from the thought of
their partner being sexually aroused by them – and that this only happens
among humans.

iii. Before reading the article, I thought that sex was purely for the sake of
pleasing your partner and yourself – for your individual enjoyment and
satisfaction. However, after reading the article, I now realize that sexual
behavior can be a way of communicating, and that it can be another
gateway of knowing more about and connecting with your partner.
3. Questions (What questions would you want answers for? Or vague areas you
want more explanations about?
i. In accordance with Catholic beliefs, if doing sexual acts with a person of
the same sex is unnatural, does that mean being a homosexual is a
mental illness?
ii. How do people with STDs, especially those who were born with it, have
biological children? How do they do sexual activities?
iii. Is one sex more vulnerable than the other when it comes to STDs?
(Excluding the STDs that can only be contacted by certain a certain sex
such a PID)
