Apply the parking brake.

Check that the gear lever is in neutral. Open up the cab.

Ensure that the vehicle is without power by removing the battery's negative lead.

Drain the coolant.

Special tools: 9996049

Slacken the bracket for the preheating relay.

Slacken the coolant hose.

Slacken clamps, remove the connector and the pressure pipe to the injectors from the injection pump. Put
protecting plugs on the injectors and the injection pump.

Remove the fuel pipes. Put protecting plugs on the injection pump's connections.

Remove the front valve cover.

Fit tool 9996956 on the flywheel casing. Turn the engine round in the direction of rotation until the 1st piston is
at top deadcentre, 0±1° on the flywheel and the valves on the 1st cylinder are closed.

Fit tool 9996950 and secure the flywheel.

Remove the cover from the timing gear casing.

Remove the nut from the injection pump's drive gear.

Slacken the injection pump's drive gear using puller 9996860.

Remove the injection pump's nuts and remove the pump.

Note: Check that the injection pump is preset and blocked (plug, and no washer under the plug) before
assembly.

Put the new injection pump on the engine. Tighten the nuts to torque. See tightening torque group 20
specifications.

Remove 9996950 from the flywheel casing, put on 9996956.

Turn the flywheel about 1/2 turn towards the direction of rotation. Turn the flywheel in the direction of rotation
until setting values in accordance with specifications are visibleon the flywheel. See settings group 20
specifications.

Remove 9996956, put on 9996950.

Put on and tighten the drive gear.

Note: The drive gear should be pulled into position in two steps. Do not pull until the washer has been put in
under the lock plug.

Loosen the plug. Position the washer between the plug and the injection pump. Tighten the plug to torque.
See tightening torque group 20 specifications.

Tighten the nut for the drive gear in accordance with step two. See group 20 specifications.

Remove 9996950 from the flywheel casing.

Carry out a check subsequently of the injection's setting on the engine. See group 23, “23622-2 Injection

Remove protecting plugs and put on fuel pipes.

Put on pressure pipe, connect the connector. Clamp pipes. Tighten the pressure pipe to torque, see group 20
specifications.

Put on the coolant hose.

Fill the coolant.

Connect the battery's negative lead.

Bleed fuel system.

Start the engine and carry out a function check and also check that there is no leakage.

Note: Check that no spillage of fuel remains in the engine space.

Lower the cab.
