1. How does your thematic unit apply appropriate pedagogy and best practices are used for the instruction of English learners? (Tasks
1.1 and 1.2)
The students are able to see visuals as well as read along to what they are learning. Students will be able to share with one another
based on previous experiences. There is no right or wrong when sharing with the class.
2. How are the materials used in your thematic unit culturally, linguistically, and developmentally appropriate for English learners?
(Task 2)
They are appropriate by incorporating culturally by giving the student a chance to connect to the material using their own experience
in their culture with the holiday. They are appropriate, linguistically, by allowing the student to read as individuals and at their own
pace. They are appropriate, developmentally, by challenging a student to use what they have just learned onto further material like fill
in the blanks or matching. They are taking what they learned and advancing it by organizing certain information. How do the learning
activities in your thematic unit use English learners’ prior knowledge and primary language? (Tasks 3.1 and 3.2)
The students are able to compare to their own experience based on their culture. They are able to use that as a connection and apply it
to what they will learn on the certain holiday.
3. How do the teaching strategies in your thematic unit integrate and develop English learners’ academic English in reading, writing,
listening and speaking? (Task 4)
Students read factual information on the history of holidays. The students then take what they read and incorporate it in a writing
activity. The student is asked to listen to their fellow classmates share as well as them sharing out loud what they interpret.
4. What assessment tools and techniques are included in your thematic unit to measure English learners’ academic achievement? (Task
5)
The assessments included are oral. Students will be put to the test by challenging themselves and reading certain material out loud to
the class or with a partner.
5. What are the benefits of multilingualism? (Task 6) The benefits of multilingualism vary. Students are able to feel perhaps a little less
stressed with certain material as they get the hang of a language they are having difficulty with. It provides one with many
opportunities in a job. Students are also able to help parents at home who might struggle more than them.
6. How does your thematic unit incorporate English learners’ cultural and linguistic assets into the classroom? (Task 6)
