FAMOUS PHOTO PROJECT
LEARNING THROUGH HISTORY
General guidelines of the project:

You will present your appreciations about a meaningful picture that


portrays an important event in history.

You will use your abilities on comprehension, analysis and knowledge of


the language to develop the three required deliveries.

You can develop this project individually or in pairs.


Expected product for the First delivery ( February 26th):
Choose a photo whose image corresponds to a specific moment in history.
Choose an event in the last decade perhaps. You can search for an event of
the last century as well. Answer the questions below and send the answers
through a mind map elaborated in Mindomo.
Name of the photo
Why did you choose this photo?
Who took it? When? Where?
What was happening when the photo was taken?,
What ideas/themes are dealt with in the photo?
What do you think the photographer of the picture is trying to say to the
viewers?
What is your reaction to the photo?

On the first delivery deadline you must post the link of your mind map in the
Blackboard forum that is enabled for that purpose by creating a sequence.
You must check two of your partners´ mindmaps and write a comment by
responding directly in your partners´ sequence, the comment must be of at
least 100 words.

MAKE SURE IT IS NOT BLOCKED WHEN YOU POST THE LINK, YOU DO THIS CLOSING
YOUR ACCOUNT AND PASTING THE LINK IN THE BROWSER, IF IT OPENS, IT WORKS, IF
IT DOESN´T OPEN OR ASKS FOR AUTHORIZATION CHECK UNTIL IT OPENS WITH NO
RESTRICTION!.

First delivery
Content and Clarity and ideas (1.5 points)
-Shows a solid grasp of all the content covered (a historical event represented by a picture)

-Extensions of the key ideas show a deep understanding of the interrelated elements of the content.
-Stands out meaningfully and grasps the key ideas of the information

Language use (1.5 points) Makes proper use of the simple and continuous tenses. Includes verb
complements –ing or to +verb correctly. Writes comparisons (as..as/ not as..as) using the correct structure
and components.

Key words-ideas-images (1 point)


-Images and key words clearly and dynamically show an understanding of the content.
Use of vocabulary related to History, historical events and social studies.

Links and codes (1 point)


-Good use of color, codes, or links to meaningfully clarify connections for all aspects of Mind Map
Expected product for the second
delivery ( March 26th ):
Write a short «bio» of the historical event
illustrared in the photo The written description
has to be written of at least 100 words to
maximun 250 words.
Language focus:
Past tenses.
Adverbs of sequence.
Some use of the passive voice.
You must post it in the blackboard forum
devoted for this purpose.

Format, content and structure (1 point)


- The writing is about a historical event portrayed by a picture.
- The text answers the question proposed completely and contains interesting information.
-The writing is very well organized, having an introduction, body and
conclusion.
- Clear, logical progression of ideas; uses appropriate transitions.
- Writing captures attention.

Language use (1 point)


-Makes proper use of the simple and continuous tenses. Includes verb complements –ing or to +verb correctly.
Writes comparisons (as..as/ not as..as) using the correct structure and components.
Includes negative questions to develop the ideas of the text.
-Uses the structure of the passive properly including modal verbs . The use of phrasal verbs evidences it
understanding.

Vocabulary (1 point)
-Use of vocabulary related to history, historical events and social studies.
-Many new words used correctly; shows strong efforts to expand the vocabulary; words and expressions are
eloquently presented.

Spelling (1 point)
-Words well written, no spelling errors
Final product (May 6th):
Elaborate a 5 minute video and upload it on YOUTUBE. In this video you must
include the elements included in the first two deliveries:
The photo you chose, the information about it, a clear explanation of the
historical event and what it represents in history and, of course, your personal
position towards the event.

For the video you can use any tool you want, I suggest PowerPoint or Prezi and
Screencast o'matic. It is important to emphasize two aspects:

1. The PowerPoint slides presented in the video should be balanced in terms of


text and images, of course you must use the photo you chose for analysis and
other supporting images

2. It is expected that the student's speech is spontaneous, reading the slides is


not allowed, specially if the student relies on an exaggerated amount of text on
the slides.
3. You should appear at the beginning of the video presenting the topic and at
the end of it explaining your position towards the event you chose.

You must post the Youtube link of your project in the corresponding blackboard
forum, you must also check two videos posted by your partners and make a
comment related to them, the comment must be of at least 100 words.
Rubrics for the video: Final delivery

Content and Clarity and organization (1 point)


-Contents related to a historical event are well-presented, ideas are well-developed, supported with evidence and specific details.
Information was well-researched, it is clear, appropriate and accurate.
-Information presented have clear ideas, supported with examples and smooth transitions.

Vocabulary use (1 point)


-Use of vocabulary related to history, historical events and social studies
-Use of appropriate words that explain the analyzed situation and provide clarity to the
development of the topic.
-Words used correctly; shows strong efforts to expand the vocabulary; words and expressions are eloquently presented.

Language use (1 point)


Grammatical accuracy, use of different grammar tenses and structures. Appropriate use of variety of nouns, verbs, adjectives.
Capitalization and punctuation usage is accurate.
Grammar: Simple and continuous tenses, present and past perfect, modals of advice, comparatives and superlatives, possessive
pronouns, negative questions, passive voice including modal verbs, comparatives and superlatives, phrasal verbs .
The use of phrasal verbs evidences it understanding.

Fluency (1 point)
Spontaneity, fillers, not reading, students speak clearly, not pronunciation mistakes.

Creativity - Teamwork (1 point)


Nice visual aids, students show enough effort to make information interesting, not reading during the video.
Sending tasks on time following the instructions.
Grading criteria
 The first delivery (post and comments on other mindmaps) will be worth 30%
 The second delivery will be worth 30%
 The final delivery (video and comments on other videos) will be worth 40%

The elements evaluated in each delivery will be:


 Structure: refers to the coherent development of the elements requested to be
included in the project, the connection of ideas and proper progress of the
information included in each delivery.

 Use of English: refers to the language components: grammar, spelling, structures,


etc.

 Content: refers to the ideas presented in the project and their connection. They must
be linked to the topics researched, the information must be coherent and
contextualized.
I really expect to see the best projects during this
semester, you only have to use the necessary tools
and explore your potential through the use of your
creativity and the language.
