Personal Finance - Checking Accounts

April 7, 2019
The title of my unit is Personal Finance - Checking Accounts, and the URL for the site is

https://sites.google.com/georgiasouthern.edu/jessicahorton . The summative evaluation of my

unit is as follows:

1. Instructional Objectives

a. By the end of this session, the student will be able to accurately fill out a blank

check template, simulating the real-life activity of paying an electric bill. (This

learning objective is in the cognitive domain).

b. By the end of this session, the student will be able to consistently eliminate blank

space on a check template to eliminate check tampering. (This learning objective

is in the By the end of this session, the student will be able to accurately fill out a

blank check template, simulating the real-life activity of paying an electric bill.

cognitive domain).

c. By the end of this session, the student will be able to design a personal signature

that is difficult for other individuals to forge. (This learning objective is in the

cognitive domain).

2. Description of Assessments

There are three assessments that can be utilized to determine if the students have met the

instructional objectives of this activity. All three of the objectives will be evaluated using all of

the assessments. The first assessment is a rubric which evaluates the performance task of filling

out a blank check accurately. The second assessment is a brief quiz to check for understanding

of the content of the video. The third assessment is a pre-assessment to determine what the

student knows before the unit begins.

4. Data Analysis

I feel that in general, the students did as expected on the pre-assessment. No students

scored a 100 percent, which means that there is a definite need for the instruction. Scores on the

pre-assessment ranged from 40 percent to 80 percent. On the quiz at the end of the unit, scores

ranged from 85 to 100, demonstrating that students mastered the learning objectives. On the

check writing rubric, students scored either an 8/9 or 9/9, indicating mastery of the practical,

hands on component of the unit.

5. Field Notes

My observations indicate that most of the students had the same challenges as my peer

reviewer, Lindsey. The students were confused about the organization and order of the unit, and

needed to know the learning objectives to successfully complete the learning module.

Peer Reviewer Comments:

-I like that you have the pre-assessment to help check what students know.
-I would add the course objectives on here so it is clear what the learning goals/objectives are for the course.
-I put comments beside each of the categories for why I gave it that score.
-Great job!!

Lindsey, your site is incredible. You more than met the criteria for each module. While reviewing your site, I wanted to
actually be a student in your class – and that’s the highest compliment I can give you. Viewing your site gave me
inspiration on things I can do to improve mine. Great work! Jess
