 Home – Michael Bublé – Notes 

ƒ Activity type: gap fill, vocabulary.

ƒ Time: 20 minutes.

1) Tell students that this song is about a singer on tour around the world. He has everything he wants,
but is homesick. Elicit answers to the following questions.

• What does he do?


• Where does he go?
• How does he feel?
• How does he travel?

2) Read the following statements aloud, and ask students to predict whether they are true or false.

a. The singer is always by himself.


b. He visits beautiful cities.
c. He sends letters to his girlfriend.
d. He does not want to go back home.
e. He is far from his home.
f. He is living his girlfriend’s dream.

3) Write the following words on the board:

aeroplane everything people


alone far run
back fine send
day letters winter
dream life words

Note: aeroplane is British English spelling, airplane is American English.

4) Play the song. Students number the words in order they hear them, and check their answers to
Activity 2).

5) Give each student a copy of the worksheet. Before playing the song again ask them to try to insert
the missing words in the correct gaps, based on their answers to Activity 4) and context and rhyme.

6) Play the song. Students check their predictions in 5).

7) Allow them to check their answers with other students, then correct.

8) Sing together.

Follow up: Imagine you are a singer on tour around the world and you haven’t seen your family for
months. Write them a letter and describe how you feel. Do you miss them? Are you homesick? Would you
like to go back home?
