STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Over the last decade significant methodological and conceptual advances in life sciences have enabled
the development of the so-called new biology; which is based on the ability to study cells at a molecular
level, thanks to the increasing availability of genomic sequences of many species and to the possibility to
determine, in a comprehensive way, gene profiles as well as the interactions between biological
molecules. In addition, technological advances in genetic engineering and synthetic biology have led to
an increased capacity of designing and building new biological systems with applications in biomedicine.
Also the strong development of bioinformatics and computational biology is proving new tools for the
management, interpretation and modeling of a constantly increasing amount of biological data.

I have always been passionate about life sciences and biology in particular, as a biology student I
pursued my undergraduate degree in Genetics at the University of Blida 1, I am well versed with
laboratory work and willing to learn more. Various subjects were taught to us in our bachelor's program,
where we have obtained some elementary knowledge of them, the focus on the theoretical aspect
helped me develop a reasonable understanding of the concepts and fascinated me to explore the
practical intricacies of them ambitiously. With specific reference to advanced imaging, next generation
sequencing, high throughput screening, and gene and cell therapy. In order to have a strong integration
between the biological disciplines such as genetic mechanisms of the cell and those of biostatistics,
genotoxicity, evolutive genetics and information technology. I would like to go further so as to be able to
perform experiments, to analyse, modify and use cells, or their individual components, in all areas
where epigenomics has an impact on human life and indeed on demographic and environmental
sustainability, while at the university of Hopkins which has advanced laboratory activities and a large
teaching hospital to develop experimental preparations, along with the high quality and dynamic
teaching culture offered at your institution.

My primary objective of doing the master's degree program at your institution is to have an opportunity
to put myself under rigorous training and acquire analytical, logical and problem solving skills as well as
reading scientific literature, hence helping me gain proficiency in a wide variety of biological subjects
such as advanced biostatistics and molecular genetics among others, which are currently unavailable
facilities in my home country, Zambia.

Thus, I believe that being admitted to John Hopkins University with astral faculty embedded within an
amazing and active environment; sizeable classrooms enabling students to participate in discussions and
have a good access to the teaching staff, will provide me with competitive advantage in my pursuit of a
career as a Geneticist. So as to expertise myself in present theories and up-to-date technologies as well
as advanced knowledge and practical skills including teamwork, leadership and scientific writing,
allowing me to continue my career path in academia or industry. I am positive that whatever I will be
learning there will enable enhance my employability and I can use to make my society a better place
when I go back after my studies, so as to improve the services there too.
