Reflective Essay

Being in Composition Two taught me how to become a better writer by teaching me new and

effective writing techniques to get by my college future. Little by little I was able to develop

stronger writing skills and have a better understanding on how to do so. Along the way I learned

how to properly cite and use in-text citation. This semester I experimented with different types of

writing styles and found the writing style that worked the best for me. This semester was

challenging for me because it was the first time I've been told I was wrong so many times. I was

given three major writing assignments, and I only did okay on one of them. All my writing

assignments contributed to my understanding of essay writing. In Composition two, I learned

about literary elements and how to effectively research information while improving my

organization skills.

The rhetorical analysis writing assignment taught me about various ways on how to state the

importance of my topic. In the article, the speaker used literary elements such as ethos, pathos,

and logos to get their reader to side with him about ways that capitalism could stop global

warming and climate change. For my writing assignment I choose to write about the effects of

climate change and how capitalism could help out. The way the author used all the elements to

convey his proposal on how his idea could help us fight the war on climate change. This writing

assignment taught me how to apply literacy devices to my essay to establish trust between the

readers and I, and being credible while doing so. The writing assignment also taught me ways to
avoid logical fallacies, also known as faulty reasoning,which may taint my credibility and ruin

my audience's trust in me. This essay taught me how to effectively research information and how

to properly organize information in my essay. The rhetorical analysis also taught me how to see

how one author effectively got their point across and use it to show others the credibility of the

author and their writing. I also did research on who this plan would reach and who would like the

plan in action. One difficult aspect about writing this paper was using in-text citation. Before I

came into Comp 2 none of my teachers have said anything about plagiarism and until now no

one has taught me how to do so. But now that I feel like I know better and how to write a little

better, I feel that my papers will come out better and with better research and citation. In the end,

all the research helped me write all my other writing assignments allowing me to get better with

progress.

Composition 2 taught me lots of tips and tricks that I can use to improve my writing and my

writing skills. I have learned how to effectively communicate to my audience by combining all

of my writing skills to write a good paper. With the help of my teacher, I was able to get closer

to becoming a pretty okay writer. This course has helped me expand my knowledge on writing

and how to appeal to others. Personally, the writing assignments were very hard, but the one that

taught me the most was the rhetorical analysis because it also was the first time I was told I'm

doing something wrong on a paper. I wish that I came sooner so I wouldn't make the same

mistake again. Even through the struggling this essay helped me in being able to produce a good

essay in my opinion in the end.
