Keeping trucks in check

Dear Neighbor:

Truck traffic is one of the biggestissuesin our community and is one of my greatest
concems.In additionto creatinggridlock that can tum a trip to the supermarketinto an all
day affair, the trucks that come through our neighborhood causea great deal of pollution,
noise, and posea seriousdangerto pedestriansof all ages.

I recently securedfunding for the Department of Transportation to study ways to

reducetruck traffic in the neighborhood,and am now calling on the 104'nPrecinct's
Highway SafetyUnit to stepup their monitoring of thesevehiclesthat barrel through the
community on a daily basisand enforcetraffic laws that preventthem from idling on our
streets.If you'd like to seewhat I've written, the letter is enclosed.

You are my eyes and ears in the community and I rely on you to let me know when

I have beencontactedby many concernedresidentsof Maspethregardingthe truck traffic

in our neighborhood.According to my constituents,trucks traveling to and from Grand Avenue
have inundatedow local roads,causingserioustraffic problemsand creatingdangerous
situationsfor pedestrians.

It has come to my attentionthat thesetrucks do not always follow the traffic regulahons
