B. Motivation
The teacher will present a video that shows things that can happen in an event
that is well managed and an event that is poorly managed.
After the class finishes watching the video clip, the teacher will ask the following
questions:
 What is the video all about?
 What are the things that were enumerated in the video that the events
manager should avoid or should observe?
 What can we do to avoid mishaps during events?

The teacher then shows a quote from Benjamin Franklin: By failing to

prepare, you are preparing to fail. The teacher then reviews the learners
about the two types of environmental factors of an event: the internal and
external environments of an event. He will then connect the previous lesson
to the lesson for today.

C. Lesson Proper
The teacher discusses the “SWOT Analysis for Events Management ".
 SWOT Analysis - a planning tool used as framework for organizing and using
data and information gained from the situation analysis of internal and
external environment.
 SWOT stands for:
 Strengths
 Weaknesses Related to event’s internal environment
 Opportunities
 Threats Related to event’s external environment
 We can use SWOT Analysis in analysing:
 Industry
 Company
 People
 Product ( Services Offered)
 Introduce SWOT Analysis Table:

Internal

Strengths Weakness
Helpful Harmful

Opportunities Threats

External

 Strength
– The company’s core competencies: the areas where the business
excels.
– The positive tangible and intangible attributes, internal to an
organization.
– Ex. Company’s/Brand’s reputation, Good quality of service, Well
Equipped Venue, Loyalty of Customers, Quality of Equipment,
Lower costs [raw materials or processes], Superior management
talent, Better marketing skills, Good distribution skills, Committed
employees, etc.
 Weaknesses
– Characteristics that place the firm at a disadvantage relative to
others.
– Weaknesses are the factors which do not meet the standards we
feel they should meet. However, weaknesses are controllable.
They must be minimized and eliminated.
– Ex. Limited financial resources, Very narrow product line, Limited
distribution, Higher costs, Out-of-date products / technology,
Weak market image, Poor marketing skills, Limited management
skills, Undertrained employees.
 Opportunities – Favorable factors with the potential to improve
current positioning.
– Arise when an organization can take benefit of conditions in its
external environment to plan and execute strategies that enable it
to become more profitable.
– Ex. Seasonal Products/Services Available in abundance,
Accessibility of the Venue, Facilities offered by the venue, Rapid
market growth, Rival firms are complacent, Changing customer
needs/tastes, New uses for product discovered, Economic boom,
Government deregulation, Cost decline for a substitute product .
 Threats – External elements in the environment that could cause
trouble for the business – External factors, beyond an organization’s
control.
– Arise when conditions in external environment jeopardize the
reliability and profitability of the organization’s business.
– Ex. Biohazard Threat, Weather, Cancellation of Services, Entry of
foreign competitors, Product life cycle in decline, Changing
customer needs/tastes, Rival firms adopt new strategies, Increased
government regulation, Economic downturn.
D. Activity

community. He will also ask them to use SWOT Analysis to their advantage and
determine the different factors that can be beneficial or an adversary to the
events they have thought of.

E. Analysis

the situational event’s Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats using
SWOT Analysis and make an action plan for the mentioned adversaries.
