HEALTH AND SAFETY

General

The use of the cladding system has a very low risk of injury to occupants
and the General Public if the system is regularly maintained and a few
simple precaution are undertake as follows:

1. When using the cleaning equipment or carrying out maintenance on


the exterior of the building, always assess the risks to personnel and
property.

2. When handling glass always ensure the correct protective equipment


is used and replacement glass is always the equal of those units
replaced i.e the correct specification, width, strength etc.

3. Where applicable always employ qualified personnel to carry out


routine or complex maintenance.

4. Always ensure power supplies are isolated prior to maintaining


electrically operated equipment i.e. motors to opening vents, roller
blinds to atrium roof and main entrance pass doors.

5. When accessing the external façade always utilize fall arrest systems
even while working in the house cradle.

6. When using cleaning fluids etc, be careful to follow manufacturer’s


instructions and do not swallow or ingest. If contact with eyes is made,
ensure the correct eyewashes and first aid equipment is available as
per the manufaurer’s instruction. Always ensure manufacturer’s
instructions and first aid precautions are available at time of purchase
of cleaning fluids, solvents etc.

7. Do not tamper or loosen any fixing or bolts as this may impair the
performance of the system and may invalidate any warranties.
Loosening or removing fixings is dangerous and my result in structural
damage and displacement of the system.

8. When carrying out maintenance to the external façade, always isolate


the area directly beneath the work area to avoid risk of injury to the
public.
It utilizing lifting equipment i.e. hoists and sucker machines, always
ensure they are capable of lifting the loads required. Never exceed the
safe working loads of any equipments.

09. When handling any insulation of fire break material, ensure gloves,
goggles and masks are worn as fibrous materials may cause irritation.

If any fibrous material enters eyes, ensure the eye is thoroughly


washed with clean water and seek medical attention as soon as
possible.

Always bag surplus material and vacuum areas after handling


insulation materials.

10. If using glues or sealants in confined spaces, check with manufacturer


prior to commencing work or exposing product to air. It unsure, always
ventilate area by opening window to ensure adequate airflow.

Always check literature prior to commencing use of product. This is


readily available from the manufacturer at time of purchase. Read and
follow directions carefully.
